Name: Y’gar (Nickname: Greenie)
Age: 24 (Birthdate: 1140.01.25)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Rank: Wingrider
Birthplace: Keroon Hold
Family: Mother: Yirlin, 48, Sr JM Baker, Keroon Hold
Father: Colgar, 51, Sr JM Baker, Keroon Hold
Distantly related to Paryna. Uncles, Cousins, etc see “Jisdol’s Family Tree” in album: s448.photobucket.com/albums/qq208/hrn212/
Signifigant others: Weyrmate: Weyrling P’ord, 25, Izoku
For in-laws see “P’ord’s Family Tree” in album: s448.photobucket.com/albums/qq208/hrn212/
Personality: Y’gar is an extremely passionate person, particularly for a brownrider. He expresses his emotions as fully as he can, depending on who he’s around. Of course he wouldn’t do anything to shame the Weyr or, when he was younger, the Hold. Y’gar also lets his emotions guide his actions, instinctively trusting them over logic. If he likes someone, he won’t question it. Similarly, if he finds that he dislikes someone, he won’t wonder why. He is also quite impulsive; making a decision and acting on it quickly. He trusts his gut instinct, and so far he’s done just fine. He exhibits these qualities so strongly that within the first few months he was at Tristar, he’d been compared to a green dragon so often that it became his nickname. It doesn’t bother him; he has enough self-awareness to know that the name fits.
As a youngster, Y’gar was never quite satisfied with himself. He was always trying to be more logical and forced himself to think things through. He felt pressure to change; to be something different. As he grew up, Y’gar realized that he just couldn’t change. He was who he was, and no amount of wishing or trying would make him different. So he stopped worrying about it, or at least tried to. It wasn’t until he Impressed Cuevath that he finally dropped the last vestiges of self-doubt that his Hold life had instilled in him. If he were ever to return to Keroon, he almost certainly would end up reverting back and worrying that he wasn’t quite ‘right,’ if only for as long as he was actually in Keroon.
Y’gar can be a bit on the selfish side, generally considering himself and his dragon before anyone else. It isn’t that he actively ignores other people’s problems. He just has a hard time recognizing that he should consider other people and their issues. This is one aspect of his personality that he is still actively working on. He knows that he’ll always forget to worry about others, but he tries. This selfish streak hasn’t left him with many friends, but those who manage to get close to him realize he’s trying to be more aware of others.
Physical description: Y’gar’s eyes are hazel in color, only adding to the appropriateness of his nickname. He has straight light blonde hair that’s kept in a close rider’s crop. His features are all a bit on the flat side, but not unhandsomely so. His skin has a naturally tanned appearance to it, what the Terrans would call ‘olive skin.’ Y’gar stands at just under 5’5” and has a fit build. As a Weyrling, he has to keep himself in shape. Y’gar is missing the tip of his little finger on his left hand where he’d slipped while slicing tubers and cut himself. It isn’t enough to hinder his dexterity, but it is noticeable.
History: Y’gar, born Yirgar, is the only child of two Bakers at Keroon Hold. His mother, Yirlin, had moved to Keroon from Nerat when she was nearly 18 turns old for her first journeyman assignment, and met Colgar at Keroon. The two were eventually handfasted and she gave birth to Y’gar. The pregnancy was difficult, and when he was born the Healers were unsure of whether she’d survive. She did survive, and with no lasting health problems. However, Colgar and Yirlin decided that they would not have any other children.
Though Yirgar was an only child, he was by no means alone. There were plenty of other children at Keroon that he could play with. He didn’t have many friends, but he enjoyed his childhood none the less. It was an easy one, without any hardship. His parents were bakers for the Hold proper and Yirgar was never without food or shelter. The only problem he faced was his parents’ attempts to curb his emotional personality. Even from a young age it was clear that he reacted to everything emotionally, and that he made rash decisions. It was the only thing that his parents disapproved of.
At the age of 11 Yirgar followed his parents into their craft, and was quite good at it. He has a well developed palate, and to this day still enjoys savoring each flavor of a meal. He was just a few months away from walking the tables when a Search dragon came to Keroon and picked him as a Candidate. Search dragons had come before, but he’d never been chosen. He was surprised and excited at the prospect of being a dragonrider. He hadn’t known anyone who had been directly affected by the Plague, and it had been gone for turns. He wasn’t worried about it. Plus, by this time he was quite ready to leave home. The constant nagging of his parents was more than he could put up with.
So at the age of 18, Yirgar was made a Candidate. He had no idea why, but he expected that he’d Impress on his first try. It wasn’t that he had dragonriders in his family, because as far as he had known there hadn’t been any. He just felt as though being at the Weyr, being surrounded by dragons, was where he was meant to be. He didn’t over-think these feelings, but he did trust them.
Turns out, not a month after he was searched, Yirgar did Impress, and a brown at that. He had felt an inkling of doubt, that perhaps he wasn’t going to Impress this Hatching, when it looked like all the dragonets had paired off, except for a blue. The little blue had been watching an un-hatched egg and Yirgar was mentally coaxing the little blue to him. He was, after all, the only dragon left on the Sands. Yirgar was sure the final egg would remain un-hatched. Then suddenly a small little brown burst from the egg and ran toward him. {{Mine!}} the little brown said to Yirgar, now Y’gar. {{I am Cuevath, Mine!}} Y’gar had bent down and hugged the little brown, completely forgetting the blue he’d been watching earlier.
In the time since Impression, Y’gar has only become more secure in himself. His childhood worry that he was too emotional has disappeared with the loving acceptance that Cuevath gives him. He’s also met and fallen for a greenrider, P’ord. The two had known each other since Y’gar was a Candidate, but were only intimate for a short time. Because Y’gar Impressed only a month into his candidacy, he’s actually spent most of his time at the Weyr celibate. It was only recently that P’ord’s Zinauth rose and the two were able to start up their relationship again. As soon as they are able, Y’gar plans to ask P’ord to move in with him. Yet, he doesn’t plan on making their relationship exclusive. Y’gar’s explanation is that it just feels right.
A few days after the Gather, P’ord got the okay to move into his own weyr. Of course, he moved right in with Y’gar. Y’gar had everything set up, including the custom embroidered blanket and pillow, for P’ord when he arrived. Unfortunately the blanket and pillow were both destroyed in the disaster at Tristar.
On the day that Tristar was destroyed, Y'gar and P'ord both managed to make it to safety. Y'gar was mostly concerned with keeping himself and P'ord safe, but the greenrider convinced him to help evacuate people. Y'gar took the destruction and deaths of so many riders and crafters hard. It was, to him, a complete tragedy and he expressed his deep sadness. It was a good thing when he was taken out of the position of Wingsecond of Wind Breakers; he just wasn't emotionally stable enough anymore to lead anyone.
In the turns since the destruction, Y'gar has moved on as much as he could considering the Holders won't leave them in peace. He firmly believes something has to be done about the problem. He hopes moving further away from the rest of Pern will help him finally move on completely and let him start living his life again.
