Extended Family Tree see “S’nol’s Family Tree” in album: s448.photobucket.com/albums/qq208/hrn212/
Personality: S’nol is a calm individual, though only because he knows how to deal with his emotions. S’nol has dealt with quite a bit of grief in his short life, and has learned how to constructively deal with it and then move on. For him, life is too short to dwell on anything negative. Even after his illness, S’nol still has this attitude. He isn’t exactly an optimist, but rather he just refuses to be a pessimist.
He is also a fiercely independent person. Having grown up in a Weyr, which has an air of independence to it anyway, S’nol has developed an independent and self-reliant personality, though he has no problem relying on his dragon for help. Otherwise, S’nol always tries to do things on his own before he asks for help. He doesn’t resent help, nor decline the offer. Instead he just generally doesn’t think to ask for help, and will struggle on his own to accomplish something for candlemarks first.
S’nol has an over-active sense of humor. He tends to laugh at everything, even things that others don’t think are funny. He also tends to laugh at and make jokes about himself. If he does something or says something he finds funny, he’ll share it with those around him. And his inability to hear or speak hasn’t dampened this sense of humor at all. If anything it’s just given him more ammunition for his jokes. S’nol also knows that he looks good, and he’ll joke about how feminine looking he is. He’s never had a lack of partners, though he isn’t exactly promiscuous he has enjoyed the occasional one-night stand. Even so, he also makes jokes about his love life, especially since it was put on hold for his time as a Weyrling.
Physical description: S’nol is, in a word, beautiful. He isn’t handsome, but beautiful. He has dark brown eyes and matching brown hair. S’nol keeps his hair at shoulder-length and it is generally braided in one braid down the back of his head. He has a small mouth with rather pink, full lips, his lower lip a bit larger than his upper. He has long black lashes and thin, curved eyebrows. His nose is not wide, but not thin either. If it weren’t for his broad shoulders and the fact that his body well muscled, he’d look feminine. He is of average height.
History: Savnol was born the youngest child of a Greenrider and Baker at Igen Weyr. He spent some time in the creche, as did all his siblings, but because his father wasn’t a rider he could take care of this children some. His parents had thought they were done having children, but then 7 turns after Saynol, his next oldest brother was born, his mother Sivnia became pregnant. It was odd that, as far as they knew, all of Sivnia’s children were fathered by Baynol. The siblings all looked related, anyway. Even Savnol was fathered by Baynol, turns after their last child had been born.
When Savnol was about a turn old, his older sister, Bayna, left to the Healer Hall to apprentice. Savnol never really did get to know her well. She went from the Healer Hall directly to Keroon Hold with her new husband for her first assignment as a Journeyman. A turn after his sister left, his next oldest sibling, Sivnol, apprenticed as a baker. He stayed at Igen Weyr for awhile, but the moment he made Journeyman, Sivnol left for Nerat Hold. He had met a candidate at Igen Weyr, Kuglei, who had originally been from Nerat. She hadn’t wanted to continue her candidacy and had wanted to move back to Nerat. Sivnol had followed her, and soon enough they had started their own family.
Savnol spent his childhood playing with those of his siblings who were still at Igen Weyr, and not busy with their crafts, as well as other children at the Weyr. His brother Sivol had been Standing as a Candidate since Savnol was 4. In fact, all of Savnol’s siblings Stood at some point, though all but Sivol had given up after one Hatching. When Savnol turned 6 Sivol Impressed to a green, becoming S’vol. While the young Savnol loved being around the dragon, it meant that S’vol was now very busy. Within that same turn, his only other sibling, Saynol, apprenticed as a Tanner. This left Savnol feeling quite alone. Yes he still had the other Weyrbrats to play with, but he no longer had any siblings around.
At the age of 12 he, like all his other siblings, chose a craft. He went with the Baker Craft, emulating his father. By this time only his parents, S’vol and Saynol were still at Igen Weyr. Within the first turn of his apprenticeship, the Plague had ravaged much of the Weyrs. His own mother and brother had lost their dragons, which had been devastating. Shortly after losing his dragon, S’vol killed himself. This was, for Sivnia, the impetus for moving. She couldn’t stand to be at Igen Weyr, especially since dragons were still dying. So she packed up her family and moved Keroon Hold to join her eldest daughter.
Savnol joined his mother at Keroon Hold, while Saynol left to Southern Boll. He had no particular reason to venture that far away from the rest of the family; he just did it. Savnol later found out that Saynol had ended up marrying and has his own children now, still at Southern Boll. Savnol’s mother took up the Tanner craft, and after a few turns life became rather routine. Savnol adapted to Hold life rather well, though there were some things he never quite got used to.
Then, when Savnol was almost 18, a dragon came from the newly named Tristar Weyr and he was, unsurprisingly, Searched. His mother had begged him not to go, stating that she couldn’t stand it if he went through the same pain she’d had to endure. Savnol’s father, on the other hand, had encouraged him to do what he wished for himself. Savnol decided to Stand. He, like every other child, had always dreamed of being a rider. And ever since his brother had Impressed, Savnol had actually thought that dream might be a real possibility. The Plague had left him a bit worried about what might happen if he Impressed and it came back, but he was willing to take that chance. It had been turns, and the illness seemed completely gone.
It was at his second Hatching, after he had turned 18, that he Impressed green Kasoth. S’nol was filled with joy, and the last remaining worried he held about the Plague coming back melted away. It would be worth it; anything was worth sharing his life with this little green.
About 5 months into his time as a Weyrling, S’nol came down with the spotted fever. It was a regular childhood illness that he just hadn’t ever had. He had complications, and though he recovered he was left deaf. Though he was mostly mute for a time, his voice did end up returning in full. Kasoth became his ears whenever he needs. Though he can get around without Kasoth, it’s always easier to have her nearby.
He attended the Gather with Katleya and had a great time. She helped him purchase a lovely short necklace that had a green dragon hanging from a leather thong. Just a few days after the Gather, he and the rest of the weyrlings from his class were able to choose their own weyrs. After discussing it with Kasoth, he chose a weyr that was around mid-level even though the weyr could only be accessed by dragon-back.
S’nol learned hand signs from D’verado, which have been very helpful. He also managed to get his voice back. His hearing is still completely gone, but he can talk. S’nol had also gone about teaching himself how to read lips. Over the turns, he's actually become quite adept at it.
Durring the volcano and earthquakes, S'nol and Kasoth managed to evacuate themselves, but in doing so Kasoth strained her wings. She was just able to land at Igen, but they couldn't do anything to help anyone else. Kasoth ended up being grounded for a month, and really wasn't able to fly for very long for months after.
