Name: L'yak (Leyak)
Pronunciation: (LI-yack) LAY-ack
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Blue Weyrling
Birthplace: Ista Hold (Birthdate. 1142.10.05)
Family: Mother: Leynora - 53
Father: Katar - 49 (deceased)
Siblings etc: Nortar, 31; Kynar, 27; Katleya of Green Centreth, 19
Significant others: None
Personality: Leyak has a definite work ethic to him, but even he isn't shy about being outgoing and casual with his friends. If he's by himself, however, he'll try to find something to keep his mind occupied otherwise he gets bored very easily. Leyak has also known to try and play some practical jokes on an unsuspecting person, only he can't keep a straight face when he does it (and usually gets into trouble as a result.) He doesn't mind telling stories, occasionally embellishing this fact or that minor detail to add suspense and intrigue. Additionally, he also tends to be somewhat witty, often making off-the-cuff comments to annoy or charm the people around him.
Physical description: If it wasn't for the fact Leyak and Katleya are about two to three Turns apart in age, they could arguably pass for fraternal twins. While he's definitely taller than his sister (he stands about five-foot-ten), Leyak has a slightly athletic build with tanned skin. His arms and legs have an even muscle tone to them, but they're not flabby, either. This young man prefers to keep his dark brown hair cut to a medium length, and tries not to let it grow past the nape of his neck (nor let the bangs fall in front of his eyes to obscure his vision). His eyes aren't as a deep green compared to his little sister's, but rather more of the standard green variety.
Much like his younger sister, Leyak prefers wearing simple clothing, and doesn't wear any type of jewelry on his fingers or around his neck as they'd only get in the way
History: Leyak was the third of four children to Leynora and Katar, and took an interest in the sea when he was little. Shortly after his little sister was born, he and his two older brothers would often tease Katleya because she was so attached to their mother, only to have their father to stand up on her behalf and warn his sons to leave their sister alone. Some of the stunts Leyak tried to pull on Katleya included spraying her with sea water, trying to dunk her under the waves, and so forth. He claimed to their father he was only trying to play a game with his little sister, but Katar simply reprimanded Leyak on many occasions. That didn't deter the boy's love for the sea, often dreaming of setting sail and exploring the open waters, and eventually apprenticed to one of his father's closest friends, a Master Seacrafter and fisherman.
It was shortly after reaching his fifteenth lifeday when his father took ill, and in spite of the Healers' efforts the four siblings found themselves without a paternal figure in their lives. Leyak was worried about his little sister because she refused to eat during the whole time their father was ill, and after he was gone the Jr Journeyman Seacrafter made sure to help look after Katleya. In spite of his efforts, his sister was never the same young woman again, and went missing when she was only 15 Turns of age. Leyak searched everywhere for Katleya, but his efforts proved unfruitful. He was hoping he'd see his sister again, and fervently wished she would just come home.
That wish was granted about two Turns later, when much to his surprise his sister returned, but now a Searchrider. Her own Centreth had been the one to discover he possessed the same "gift" as his little sister, and the Seacrafter didn't think twice about becoming a Candidate. Leyak went through the Candidacy process at Igen, and much like everyone else was forced to flee to Izuko en mass after it was discovered the water source had been poisoned. The Journeyman Seacrafter wasn't really sickened by the water, thankfully, but did what he could to help out. By the time he arrived at Izuko, Leyak continued his Candidacy, and eventually Impressed to a Blue dragonling named Telmarith, earning his Weyrling's knots.
Rumor has it that the Seacrafter has his eye on one of the female Weyrlings...
