((OOC - While we're still waiting to finish up the rescue mission JP between myself, Sorra, Katlyn, and Mik, I've decided to get this next part of the story arc started.))
((Dramatis Personae: M'riel, M'cleod, Shayna, Swift, Seleti, Dienon, D'verado, R'bao, Eodira))
It was after midnight when six dragons returned to Izuko; four of them having departed earlier when there was still daylight. Four Riders and one Master Guard had undertaken a daring rescue mission to bring back one of their own, and now there were seven people total. But that would soon prove to be a moot point.
M'riel was in a foul mood, and for good reason. Not only did he find out that Swift had practically abandoned his station by leaving the Weyr without letting anyone know about it, but the young Bronzerider bore the same tattoo of an empty bowl on his wrist. The same mark had been discovered on the rest of the enemy whom held Seleti hostage, later identified as Dragonkillers. Mac had his reasons for not disclosing this information, but he was no longer the Weyrleader. M'riel was, and the future Rider issued his orders to his Weyrsecond: Haul Swift into the interrogation room, and extract every piece of knowledge he had about the clan he was once affiliated with. It was clear he was trying to infiltrate his own clan to rescue Seleti. But was his clan responsible for the poisoning of the waters at Igen? Whom were they allied with? What routes did they follow to move from Hold to Hold? Were they in league with the Holders, or were they a loose-knit bunch of common thieves whom simply preyed on the merchants and Traders? Mac, to his credit, tried to defend his fellow Rider, but M'riel would have none of it. "You deliberately withheld that information from me after I became Weyrleader, Mac," the future Rider accused his Weyrsecond. "I put you in charge of the rescue op, now it's your turn to question Swift. Rule thirty-eight: Your case, your lead. I want a full report on my desk in two days." He then turned to Shayna. "Weyrwoman, as Weyrleader, I hereby request that Bronze Rider Swift and his dragon Seminth be grounded. I'm charging him with abandonment of his station and duties, and I'm also charging him with treason. He bears a mark identical to the Raiders whom held Seleti hostage, and I have reason to believe it was the same raiding clan that may have been responsible for Igen. I'm also permanently reassigning Green Rider Seleti and her dragon Cheyneth to your Wing."
M'riel then looked at Dienon. "Master Guard Dienon." By addressing the man using his full rank, the Weyrleader let Dienon know this incident had now reached an official level. "Bronze Rider Swift is to be placed under heavy guard until further notice. He may join us in the Dining Cavern for meals, but otherwise is to have at least two guards with him at all times. He is also to be placed on light duty and tasked with extra chores."
To Swift, M'riel leaned in until he stood nose-to-nose with the younger man. "You're lucky we don't have a pillory, Swift, and we're not at High Reaches Hold in my time. I wouldn't think twice about putting you in the stocks for what you've done." He kept his voice low, but otherwise it was practically a growl. M'riel then took a few steps back, and signaled to Dienon and a few of the guards. "Get this man out of my sight," he practically shouted. "Take him to the interrogation room so Mac can question him. I need to see our WeyrHealer and have her take a look at my shoulder." It was obvious the Weyrleader was still in pain, but he did his best to block it from his mind long enough for him to issue his orders. "R'bao, D'verado, lemme lean on you two so I can make it to the Infirmary."
