When he was younger he use to be very out going and
mischievous, but since the plague he keeps to himself.
He always finds ways to keep himself busy, so he
doesn’t start thinking about Dirith. If this happens,
then he’ll be only half there for a good sevenday.
Sailaten started keeping a journal when he became a
candidate. He still writes down everything, hoping
someday it may help other riders from having to lice
through the same thing. Sailaten still enjoys being
around people at times. This usually helps him keep
his mind focused. He also keeps himself occupied with
his 3 Turn old daughter, Evie. She’s one of the few
things that still keep him going.
Physical description: Sailaten has dark brown hair
with a few lighter streaks through it. He keeps his
hair short since Evie likes to tug on it if he lets it
get a little long. He also keeps himself cleanly
shaven. He had haunting brown eyes that seem lifeless
at times. You could swear you could see right through
them sometimes. There’s always a sorrow present in
his eyes that he’ll never lose.
Sailaten is about average height. He’s actually a
little short for a former dragonrider. He’s still in
very good shape, considering he had to chase Evie
around. He would actually be considered quite
handsome if you can get past the sorrow that’s always
present. He has a soft, friendly appearance to him,
so people aren’t afraid to approach him.
Sailaten is always very clean and presentable. Even
after his bronze died, he refused to let his
appearance go down hill. He even keeps his sleeping
area very clean.
History: Sailaten was born to green rider Sailay and
blue rider T’ten. He had other brothers and sisters,
but didn’t see them all that often. Sailaten loved
growing up as a weyrbrat. Although, he was always
finding ways to escape the crèche. Although, he was
always easy to find. He always managed to find his
way to the infirmary. He loved learning how to treat
humans and especially dragons.
When Sailaten turned 11 he talked his parents into
letting him go to the Healer Hall as an apprentice.
There really wasn’t any argument. He had showed an
interest in being a Healer since he was little and
Healers were always needed. Especially dragonhealers.
Sailay dropped her son off at the Healer Hall.
Sailaten was anxious to begin his lessons. He knew it
would take a lot of work, but he didn’t care. Over
the next 3 Turns Sailaten learned more then he ever
dreamed possible. The Masters would even ask him
questions concerning dragons.
During his 13th Turn, he returned to High Reaches to
stand as a candidate. He was all excited about having
a chance to Impress a dragon. By the end of the Hatching
he had Impressed a bronze named Dirith. Over the next
few months, Sailaten, now S’laten, spent every moment
with Dirith. He wrote down everything in his journal.
Although, he didn’t realize how much his journal would
mean to him in the following Turns.
During his late 15th Turn he met Evlyn, a Journeywoman
Harper. The 2 became the best of friends and she soon
informed S’laten that he was going to be a father. Evie
was born in the early months of S’laten’s 16th Turn.
This proved to be S’laten’s worst Turn. Evlyn had a hard
labor and she ended up dying not long after Evie was born.
S’laten was heartbroken. He refused to foster Evie out,
since she was all he had left of Evlyn.
S’laten’s life only went down hill from there. Just when
S’laten started to get his life under control again, the
plague swept through Pern. Dirith soon came down with the
plague. S’laten did everything in his power to save his
dragon, but Dirith still ended up betweening. Sailaten
wanted to just die. He had lost his lover and his dragon.
The only thing that kept him going was his stubborn streak
and his love for Evie. He didn’t want to leave his little
daughter all alone.
Instead of finding a quiet hold to live in, Sailaten packed
up Evie and made his way down to TriStar Weyr, the only Weyr
still around. He was hoping to be of some help since he knew
a lot about dragon healing and didn't want to give it up even
though it makde him think of Dirith. Over the next 3 Turns,
Sailaten slowly got his life back in order. There was still a
big part of himself missing without Dirith. Evie started asking
questions about her mother and asking if she’ll ever have
another mother. Now, Sailaten doesn’t know what to do. He
wants to make Evie happy, but doesn’t know about getting close
to someone else.
Sai has been at Tristar for 3 Turns and seems to be settling
okay. He's just happy that Evie seems to be enjoying Tristar.
Although he got quite a shocker when Taenia suggested to him
that he adopt young Siarie. He accepted after thinking about
it for a while. Now Evie seems even happier and Sai's life
is never dull.
Not long later Sai had a one night stand with Rizzie only to find out that the girl was still a weyrling. Then Rizzie informed him she was pregnant. She dumped Zelten on him barely ever sees him.
Sai has a fancy for Healer Macira, but is afraid to say anything. After the earthquake and volcano he concentrated on helping the others and getting used to a new home once again.
