Dixi fed Jadith another piece of meat as she got her emotions under control again. Crying was not an option. She was stronger then that. She soon found herself leaning into his gentle embrace. It nearly broke her and made her start to cry. "I just don't know why any mother would leave their child. I would love to see her again and ask her that very question." She unburied her necklace from under her shirt. "This is all I have left of my family. I have a feeling they're still out there somewhere." She looked over at him. "I'm sure it was nice growing up with your family. It must be hard not seeing them now."
She listened quietly to his tale as she fed Jadith some more meat before the green started to protest again. "Your sister?" she asked curiously. She hadn't realized that L'yak had any family at the Weyr. That had to have been nice. She giggled softly. "I'm sure she forgives you now. And that must have been a shock when she showed up after so long." Dixi would have thought L'yak's family would have been thrilled to see their daughter alive. Of course she didn't know much else about his family. Maybe they were some of those that didn't like the riders. Of course she couldn't understand that thinking. "It must be nice having your sister here too."
Dixi nodded. "I know what you mean. I don't understand this at all. What do the Holders think the riders did to them?" That never made any sense to her. She could still remember snatches of her father's angry voice shouting about dragon riders, but she couldn't ever make out the words. "That would be nice for the two of you." She looked at him in shock. "Me? Why would they want to meet me?"
