M'riel was finally finishing up his little project he'd started the other day. It had taken some time for him to carefully carve the details into the wooden pendant he was working on, and he was carefully smoothing the rough edges so it wouldn't chafe against a certain Junior Goldrider's skin. The runner's head would be laying flat on one side, facing to the wearer's left, but could easily be reversed to face the opposite direction if so desired. That was why M'riel made sure to take the time to carve and scribe the intricate details into both sides of the pendant. He wanted this to be one of his finer works of art.
Working with his hands had always been soothing to him. It forced him to slow down, to focus on what he was doing, but it allowed him some modicum of peace and quiet. Arda had came and visited him the other day, and M'riel was able to finally get her alone for a moment so he could convey his gratitude to the Junior Goldrider. Now that he was nearly finished with the runner's head pendant, it would symbolize his budding and growing friendship with the woman. Hopefully, neither K'ryn nor Shayna wouldn't take offense at M'riel's gift. To the Weyrleader, it was his way of saying thank you to Ardalae.
When he first started, M'riel had chosen a small chunk of a dark, rich wood to work with. Oak wouldn't do, nor would ash or pine. No, he needed something that he could easily bring out its natural beauty, something that would definitely complement his friend's beauty and grace. That was why he had chosen the material he was using. It would fit Arda perfectly.
As soon as he thread the wherhide cord through the top loop, M'riel tied the two ends together and held it up for him to see. The pendant dangled a little, but otherwise the knot was secure. It was time to present it to its new wearer. Setting it down on his desk for the moment, the Weyrleader put away his reading glasses, cleaned up the sawdust and tidied up his workshop, then retrieved the pendant before making his way to Arda's personal quarters. It would probably be a good idea to announce his pending arrival ahead of time, so he asked a silent favor to Oreath to inform Fraith that he was on his way.
