Persona information
Name: Bresala
Age: 23 (6/21/1141)
Gender: female
Sexual Orientation: heterosexual
Rank: Search Rider
Birthplace: Telgar Hold
Family: Mother, Nadril, d.
Father, Yuvor, d.
Brothers, B'gran, Dragonrider, 26.
B'dren, Dragonrider, deceased.
Signifigant others: none
Personality: Bresala was a quiet, reserved girl even before the plague,
dedicated to Heorth and her lessons. She has taken the loss of Telgar with
remarkable equanimity, largely because she deals with it and her parents loss
by not dealing with it. She is a daydreamer, preferring fantasy to reality much
of the time, though Heorth keeps her solidly grounded. She could be a
well-spoken, self-possessed young woman, but will probably need a good mentor
figure to make that happen.
Physical description: Bresala is of average height, and hopes in vain to grow
another inch or two. Her dark brown hair is worn long enough to pull back, and
is only a couple of shades darker than her eyes. She could be pretty with a
little effort, but only feels that she has the time to do that on special
occasions. She does have a fondness for necklaces, though, and is rarely seen
without one unless at drills.
History: Bresala was born to Journeyman healers Nadril and Yuvor stationed at
Telgar Hold, the youngest of the couples three children. Though her brothers
fought all the time with each other, they didn't mind their sister as much,
and she grew up in a loving and supportive home. She tagged after her brothers
until she was old enough for harper lessons, playing the beautiful maiden that
the brave dragonriders had to rescue.
When she began her studies, she took to them like a fish to water. She hardly
noticed when Begran was Searched by a Telgar bluerider, and when Beodren moved
to the Fort hall to begin his apprenticeship as a healer. She was glad for the
quiet to study, though.
When it came time to consider what to do with her life, Bresala found herself
hesitating. She wanted to continue the family tradition, but had a minor
aversion to blood. Someone suggested the harper hall and teaching to her, and
she was considering that path when the Search riders came again. She eagerly
accepted the Search when she was chosen, seeing the opportunity to learn new
things and put off thinking about her life's work a little longer.
No one was more surprised than she, including her still-candidate older brother,
when she Impressed green Heorth at her first hatching. She and Heorth made a
promising start to their training, passing a full Turn with no problems. Then
the first dragons started dying, and the Weyr rang out with keens almost daily.
Bresala focused even harder on her training to try and block out the death. Her
group, though cut in half by training accidents and the plague, made it through
training before their Weyrlingmaster died. She took her green and her brother
home for a visit after graduation, mostly for a break from the despair running
rampant in the Weyr.
Heorth remained as fit as ever away from the Weyr, but in an ironic twist, it
was Bresala who fell ill. She suffered through her illness for a month. It was
another month before she had recovered enough to travel, but by then her parents
had caught the same fever and she was reluctant to leave them. Besides, there
was nothing to be gained by taking Heorth back to the diseased Weyr. She and
her brothers watched as their parents condition worsened, despite all that the
other healers could do, and finally died.
It was about then that Telgar was declared officially dead, and Bresala took
Heorth to join the meeting of Pern's remaining riders. Bresala still mourned
Telgar, but realized any future the dragonriders had would be at the new
Tristar Weyr. Beodren tried to talk her out of it, arguing that Heorth could
still get sick and he didn't want to lose her. But when she and Begran still
insisted on going, Beodren not only gave up, but took a leave of absence from
his apprenticeship so he could join them as the so-called sane one in the
group. This was probably just as well, since Heorth had begun showing what
Bresala thinks (having no one at hand to ask) are Search tendencies, and
fawned over both brothers like a puppy.
Bresala ended up being right as both her brothers Impressed. Bresala is
trying her hardest to help the remaining dragon riders of Pern. Things
definitely haven't been quite though. A new gold appeared to help the Weyr
and then T'jas won Taenia's next flight and became the new Weyrleader.
Things just never seem to cease changing.
Bresala was finally starting to come out of her shell thanks to K'levan when she learned that he had found a new partner. Then after the quake and the death of one of her brothers she started drawing in on herself again. She stays close to B'gran in fear of losing him too. Heorth does her best to keep Bresala happy.
