2.12 {Hatching} The time has come

T'ryern looked over in alarm when Lira suddenly seemed to slip away from him. He had never seen her like this before. He had broken down on her before especially when he had found out about Rytan, but she had always seemed stronger then him. he touched her shoulder, but stayed out of Lluviath's way as he was sure the little green knew what to do. "Lira," he whispered.

Erosth looked down in worry at the pair. T'ryern? Is she alright? he asked as he watched his dainty mate and the girl that his liked and cared about.

She will be, Erosth, T'ryern promised his blue. He would do whatever he could to help Lira. He loved her.

[To Macira]

Sai looked over quickly when he heard Macira's soft words that he was pretty sure she hadn't meant for him to hear. He followed her gaze and cringed. He knew that look very well. He had had it quite often himself. He squeezed Macira's hand before pulling it away from her. "Go," he whispered. Sai was not going to keep her from her sister. He would make do. He had all these Turns. He would just slip out right after the Hatching.

[To R'bao/Tesheara/K'lar/L'ret]

Shayna turned her attention to where Nadoth was. She knew what the brown was like and also that her lover was right. She smiled and glanced back at Tesheara. "I think you're right," she agreed with R'bao. But just how did you handle a HAD who wasn't sure how to act herself? This was going to be a touchy subject and she didn't want to chance losing the girl.

The brown Impresses, Josiath said happily. It wasn't her clutch, but the gold was still thrilled to see the hatchinglings Impress. It would mean more dragons for when Thread returned.

[To Mikan]

Ginillina pulled back and looked into her lover's eyes, her bangs falling into her own blue eyes. She shook her head. "Don't be sorry, Mikan. You would have made a great rider." She knew she probably wouldn't be with him if he was a rider, but if that is what would truly make him happy then she would have made due. She loved him, and wanted him happy no matter what. Next to the animals Mikan was the most important thing in her life.

Hya was nearly bouncing up and down as the brown Impressed. She glanced over at the bronze who still hadn't moved from his shell. That seemed odd to her. "Oh I hope so. This is so suspenseful," she said cheerily, watching all the dragonets.

[To K'dae]

Bresala was smiling as she watched the brown find his lifemate. It was always so special to see that happen. She reached over and squeezed K'dae's hand, thankful for the man's presence. "I think you are right," she agreed.

[To Candidates]

Rytan nearly stopped breathing as the brown headed toward them. Was this it? Was he about to Impress? his hopes were quickly deflated as the brown stepped up to Conneray, but he couldn't be upset either and gave the other boy a grin. "Congratulations," he told Conneray. He was happy for his friend. There were still dragons mingling around. Besides, he could Stand again if he didn't manage to Impress this time.

Evie watched the greens that were on the Sands. She couldn't help but hope that one would be hers. The greens were so beautiful. She didn't care that they weren't golds. She would love a green just as much.

[To Ardalae/Kolteya]

K'ryn grinned and squeezed Ardalae's hand. He didn't care at the moment if T'jas noticed. "Oh I hope so too!" he said in answer to Kolteya as he looked over at the two gold riders. This had been a great Hatching so far. He just hoped it stayed that way.

[To D'verado/Lorina]

Tes'n was surprised when the brown pair didn't come off the Sands, but everyone was entitled to their choices. Until they chose to come off he would help the others that Impressed. He knew how hungry the dragonets were after Impressing.

[To Caid]

Leyran grinned as he continued to brush the canine. "I like her," he said cheerily. He helped Randy with Rask quite often, but the canine was soft. Randy smiled as she watched her son, glad to see him smiling. Despite everything going on with Farley she always knew she would have a friend in Caid. And he could always make her smile.

Taenia, so caught up in the emotions of the hatching didn't even notice Lira's struggles. She was too caught up in her own plight, her own memories of the lack of golden dam.. but the worst, the worst was remembering her own impression when she watched each pair find their lifemates.. that vague surprised look crossing their faces as they struggled to come to believe that their wishes had been granted.. Tears did well in Taenia's eyes as she thought this, but she remained, she wanted to see the last of Authanth's children hatch and impress.. and she was certain, determined even, that every last one of them would impress.. not even a single one of them would be allowed to between today..

Siarie watched in quiet inticipation as each egg hatched, spilling the creative within onto the warm sands.. she watched with qwelled excitment at dragons came over to the candidates and impressed.. and was disappointed as each one passed her by yet again. She knew most candidates didn't impress on their first time around.. but still, she had hoped.. that just maybe.. maybe...
...well, there were still eggs on these sands to hatch yet!!!

Post 8

Two more eggs started to rock violently. They bumped into each other, causing both shells to crack into little pieces, revealing a brown and green dragonet. The brown was a bit on the small side and had an odd colaration to him. His hide was almost snowy white. The brown looked at his sister before turning to look at the candidate. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to find His or not.\

The little green on the other hand was far from being little. She was actually on the larger side and her hide was an odd mix of yellow and green. She looked around, ignoring the candidates beforfe spotting a target. The yellow green took off across the Sands, knocking into the pale green before pouncing on the bronze. The bronze was knocked onto the sand, but only seemed to laugh as he turned his head to see the yellow green.

The pale green haed been knocked into the candidates by the yellow green. The pale green was about to yell at her sister before she looked up into the eyes of her chosen. {Let’s go, Mine. I am not standing here a minute longer.} She turned on her feet and walked off the Sands.

Description: Jadith is a very pale green colour, a colour that stands out miles from any of the other green dragons in the weyr..and she likes it this way. She is large, and very long for a green, and would easily pass for a brown if covered in mudd..

Personality: Jadith is an independent type of dragon that refuses to acknowledge her need for the human bond between her and her rider. She’s a difficult and powerful creature to contend with, and hers will have great difficulty in making their bond successful, thankfully, she is just a green and doesn’t hold the same power as a gold.. .something that enrages her completely! Jadith was deffinately born to be a gold.. and one that would have rivalled Tsunath.. she has a temper and is a good dragon and holding a grudge…for the short time that she can remember it, which, being a green isn’t long at all.

Lyam watched as two more eggs rocked and collided with eachother, revealing a very pale dragon and a green. He couldn't even really tell what color the pale one was from where he stood. His sister was standing nearby looking on curiously. With three of the clutch already Impressed, she wasn't certain if they would Impress this time around or not. Nevermind the fact that one of the twins might Impress and the other not. Neither had even thought about that idea.

Tria stayed near the back of the group, watching on as each one Impressed and smiling in happiness for them. If she Impressed, then she Impressed. It certainly wasn't a do-all end-all for her though. She was highly considering going back to her craft after all.

Ardalae smiled, though inwardly she grimaced, when the trouble-green Impressed. She hoped that the lucky Impressee could handle the troublesome dragonet.

Kalerai grinned when a third dragonet Impressed. She was happy to see them Impressing.

Lorina waved the new impression pair over her way and then directed them towards the weyrlingmasters that would be their teachers over the next almost two turns. It was then that she was grateful she was just in charge of the candidates.

Sade watched eagerly as more eggs Hatched, and the Sands seemed to be filled with awkward dragonets looking for their lifemates, or not, as the case seemed to be for many of them. The regal brown finally Impressed to a boy, and then a large green and a brown hatched together after their rocking eggs bumped. The green, a strange yellowish color, knocked over the unfazed bronze before Inpressing as well. Safe grinned at the new weyrlings, eyes straying back to the Eggs. She didn't feel like any of the other dragonets already hatched were for her, though she knew in the back of her mind that she very well could be mistaken. But her gaze kept turning back to the eggs, and even to the golden egg, a surprise addition. But no, what a silly thought, she just had to hope for more blues.

Celyn, meanwhile, smiled at the boy who Impressed the brown, stifling the urge to kick the sand ungraciously. He did sigh quietly. Still, he had little time to be dissapointed, the bronze, of course, was still about, and then a brown and green hatched. Celyn eyed the brown eagerly, and then he gasped softly as he saw the bronze knocked down by his green sister. But the little hatchling seemed unhurt, and the young dragonhealer relaxed again. Or as much as he could while the Hatching was going on.

{R'en}

R'en was already in motion by the time the Hatching was underway, his familiar satchel slung over his neck and opposite shoulder. His standard field medic uniform was a bit form fitting, but otherwise revealed very little other than his forearms and hands. Arieth, he knew, would be watching as were the other twelve that came with them. He also knew that Hatchings were often fraught with injuries and high drama, and for once he didn't feel like getting under Eodira's skin. Nor did he feel like trying to tease the other female Healers. He had a job to do.

R'en didn't so much pay attention to the colors as he was watching to see if any of the Candidates were injured, either through no fault of their own or otherwise. He thought he had to step in when he saw a female Candidate start forward when a Green started to give a Blue some trouble, then she immediately stopped as a newly-hatched Brown intervened. He breathed a silent sigh of relief. Good. So far, everything was going as smoothly as possible.

{M'riel}

M'riel, on the other hand, wasn't present in the Stands when he heard the familiar humming that often signaled a Hatching was about to start. He had given Oreath leave to go watch, but the Bronze Rider wasn't going to attend. Instead, he opted to make his way to one of the larger caverns sometimes used by the woodcrafters; not too long after leaving the Welcoming Island and the mandatory isolation period, he had come across it and managed to find enough ash wood, some sap from the leaves of ging trees, and the right tools to start a new project. He had been working on it for about two sevendays now, and he figured it wouldn't take him too much longer to complete it. Cutting, shaping, and bending the ash wood without breaking it or splintering it was no easy task, but he still managed with relative ease. Now that he had the right shape and sizes of the various pieces he needed, it was time to assemble them together.

With one egg and five dragonets left on the sands still to Impress this hatching was far from over. The final egg still seemed to dance to the temp of the hatching song, but not as aggressively as the other hatchlings had moved it was clear that the last egg was taking his merry time before hatching. With Jadith off of the sands the last dragons wandered around the Sands happily. The bronze, currently playing with the tomboy green looked up. {You should find yours.} he told the large green wisely nudging her gently towards the white covered candidates and started to investigate each of the boys, maybe this green would choose a male rider instead of a female one.

Her brown brother, the one she had hatched with saw her investigating the candidates and ran across the Sands to join her, she would not Impress before him! Skidding to a stop in front of a girl he looked up into her eyes and spoke. {Mine, your Narfith is here!} Put out by her brother’s desire to steal the candidates the green wandered down the line of boys, stopping in front of the first one she saw. {I am your Valianth, Lyam.}

Description: Valianth is ‘tomboyish’ looking dragon, especially for a green. Her apperence is very masculine in that she is large and ‘muscled’ rather than small and dainty like some of the other greens in the clutch. She is not a very attractive shade of green, with more of yellow green dirty colour than the bright healthy looking dragons of their clutch..

Personality: Valianth is a dragon that will forever stay young in her personality as she gets older, she loves a good game or story.. and will happily play with any other dragon when time permits it.. although, she does know that there is a time, and a place for such antics..and can be counted on in an emergency or serious situation. She is a dragon ‘gifted’ with the ability to ‘assist’ other dragons in stressful needs and can easily talk a stressed dragon into calmness.. a gift that will be a great asset in the weyr..

Description: This brown looks like a autumn addition to the seasons of pern. He is a mixture of bleached brown and light browns, which some parts so light in his colouration that the colour almost looks washed out and barely there. The only dark part of the dragon is a dark brown that runs down his neck ridges, along his back and to his tail.. making it look as if he has hair..
In build, Narfrith is very scrawny, not at all like some of the rest of the clutch who appear muscled and powerful. Narfrith looks more like a runt when held in comparison with those.. although he is not a runt.[/brown]

Lyam gave a start when the pale brown stopped in front of his sister. But his attention lasted only a second before the green stopped in front of him. Both twins seemed to be somewhat shocked they had Impressed, but after a moment, they gave their lifemates hugs. "He's Narfrith," Alyan said to her brother, who replied with "She's Valianth." They grinned. After they hugged the egg-goo-covered dragonets, they headed over to where Lorina and the others waited for them. Valianth seemed just as happy as before, though Narfrith glared at the waiting Eterith still sitting on the Sands.

Sade watched anxiously as two more dragonets Impressed. There weren't many left now and she was beginning to have a sinking feeling that she would be left Standing. She let a small sad sigh escape. Of course, it was her first Hatching, and there were several more to come, but it was still a depressing thought. She could only eye the remaining egg hopefully.

Celyn too, was feeling anxious, and it seemed worse somehow that a brown had picked a girl instead of him. He knew of course, that it happened sometimes, and of course it was likely that the brown had wanted the girl all along but still. It wasn't a rational thing, it was just a gut feeling of unworthiness. He tried to cheer himself up by thinking about the many Hatchings to come, and he watched the bronze, almost idly.

<To T'ryern/Anyone>
“C’onner,” Lira whispered after a moment of T’ryern’s touch, her focus not yet in the present. She had loved him and his bronze Scoth had sired at least one of her Hylanth’s clutches. Her watery eyes were still fixed on the newly Impressed pair as if there were some link that gave her Hylanth back. As if the goldrider knots about her wrist were in their rightful place on her shoulder instead. Through the next several quick events of dragonets hatching and Impressing, the Re-Impressed Rider remained locked in her past, tiny Lluvaith’s head upon her lap, crooning and warbling for her lifemate to come back to her and realize that she was still there. That Hylanth was no more as was this bronze pair that had gone by way of the Plague.

<To Sai/T‘ryern>
Macira looked to Sai at his word for her to take leave of her seat. With a grateful smile, she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and whispered, “Thank you,” before getting up and working her way as quickly as she possibly could to get to her younger sister’s side. Once there, she touched the ever so patient green before touching her sister’s free hand. “Lira, we need you here with us,” she started, giving T’ryern a worried look as she placed her sister’s hand on the head knobs of the tiny green. Something had to knock her out of this memory…

M’cleod’s attention was only remotely on the next three Impressions and eggs hatching upon the Sands. His eyes were mainly on his sister, seeing his twin finding her way to Lira’s side. At least Macira was able to be there. He was not entirely sure what had triggered this one, but it must have had something to do with the brown pair waiting on the Sands. Another look at the newly Impressed Rider nearly answered the Weyrleader’s question as the face of the lad was extremely familiar. He looked a lot like his sister’s bronzerider lover before the Plague struck. No wonder.

R’bao smiled as he split his attention between Tesheara’s words and Serguth’s excited musings about the Hatching. He was informed of three more Impressions of two greens and a brown and smiled when the brown and one of the green’s had Chosen the two sailor twins that he and Lira had picked up on one of their exploratory Sweeps.

Mikan smiled at Ginillina’s words. He would have made a great Rider. But in the long run, had he Impressed, he would not currently be caring for his family’s runners and caring for all of the beasts that the Weyr owned now. No, he was meant to be where he was at for some reason. “Yeah, but I doubt I could top L’ret’s achievements,” he said, a bit of a joking tone to his voice. He envied his youngest brother for Impressing a bronze, but he was also very proud to be the brother of a WeyrSecond.

As K’dae watched the next three Impressions, he nearly jumped out of his seat as a brown dragonet picked a girl for a lifemate. “Would you look at that?! That’s three times now that a brown’s picked a girl!” he said excitedly, watching as the young girl led her brown off the Sands. Wow! That was always something!

<To Hya>
Teylbug giggled as she watched the snowy brown wander to his lifemate. “Hey! Look! The brown picked a girl. That makes…Kiala, Kalene…this one. Three girl brownriders.” She had enjoyed the company of Kalene until her dragon had died by accident on their very cliffs.

<To K'ryn, Ardalae, T'jas>
Kolteya smiled as her two-toned eyes drifted back to the bronze still lingering about his egg shards. “He must be waiting for someone quite special if he’s not very worried,” she said of the bronze, the only male dragonet left on the Sands since the other brown had Impressed.

<Sands...Candidates...>
Conneray heard the congratulatory words from his fellow Candidate and gave Rytan a wide grin. “I hope you get as lucky as me,” he said in a good sported way. Eterith scooted closer to his Chosen so that he would be touching the robes that clothed Conneray. Isn’t this wonderful, Mine? he asked as he watched the eggs cracking open to reveal his clutchmates and watching as some of them Impressed. “It is indeed!” Conneray returned to his dragon. HIS DRAGON!!! Eterith eyed the next to last egg on the Sands, waiting for it to reveal itself, his belly grumbling in hunger, but himself not wanting to leave the Sands until he saw all his clutchmates.

Eraydine watched as more dragonets spilled from their eggs and watched as each one that came her way, passed her by. She was starting to wonder if she was going to Impress to this small clutch of eggs. She stood a little straighter and tried her best to mask the worry and doubt that she was feeling growing inside her.

D’verado’s keen eyes kept glancing back at the brown pair just idling on the Sands, but he gave each new pair a friendly smile and a Voice echoed encouragement as he took care of his task for them before sending them toward V’yel. He smiled at the twins. Both had been young, but obviously not too young, because they both walked from the Sands with a dragonet beside each of them.

Caid chuckled at Leyran’s words. Of course the lad liked the canine. It seemed like he liked any pet that he let him help care for when he was spending time with him.

[To Lira/Macira]

C'onner? T'ryern had to think for a minute as to who that was. Then it dawned on him. Lira's old lover. Oh shards, no wonder the girl had nearly lost it. He hugged her close, being careful not to disturb Lluviath as Erosth peered down at them. What a mess. "I'm here," he whispered. "Erosth and Lluviath and I are here." He wasn't very good at this whole consoling thing, but he would do his best. He was pretty sure he loved Lira and he didn't want to lose her.

Sai watched as Macira hurried away. He tried not to tremble and closed his eyes instead of turning back to the Hatching. He so wanted to just slip away, but he couldn't do that to Evie and Siaire. They deserved his support and he was not going to let them down. At least there were only a couple dragonets left now.

T'ryern looked up in relief when Macira showed up and moved aside a bit to let Lira's sister close. He hoped that she would know how to help Lira since T'ryern was at a loss. "How can I help?" he asked softly.

[To Tesheara/L'ret/K'lar/R'bao]

Shayna smiled and let the two younger riders talk to Tesheara. It seemed like the girl was in good hands. She glanced up at her lover and gave him a gentle smile. This was turning into a very good Hatching the whole way around. She turned back around just in time to see Aly Impress to the little brown. "She'll be a good rider," she said softly.

[To Mikan]

Ginillina watched the dragonets search around for their chosen. She slipped her hand into Mikan's, deciding how she could help her lover. She grinned as an idea struck her and she was going to see about making it happen after the Hatching. She kissed his cheek before she settled against his shoulder. "It depends on how you look at achievements," she pointed out cheerily. "What about a family? We could have children and actually raise them where as your brothers wouldn't be able to," she said gently.

[To K'dae]

Bresala smiled and nearly cheered as Lyam and Aly Impressed. She remembered Kiala and missed the brown rider. "A female brown rider. It's different but our last two were extremely good riders," she said, reaching over to touch K'dae's hand. She couldn't help it. She was excited and happy.

[To Teylbug]

"Wow!" Hya exclaimed as Aly walked away with the brown. "I bet that will be an interesting pair up. I think I'll go down and introduce myself once everything is over," she said cheerily. She was happy for all the newly Impressed riders.

[To Kolteya/Ardalae'T'jas]

K'ryn turned his attention to the bronze who still didn't seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere. "Must be. Most dragons don't wait that long," he said thoughtfully. The little bronze hadn't betweened so that was a good thing. It meant his chosen was there, he just hadn't found him yet.

[Sands/Candidates]

Rytan gave his friend a big smile. "What's his name?" he asked Conneray. He looked over when Aly and Lyam Impressed and gave them a quick wave. Although he was a bit jealous of them Impressing he couldn't be upset. They were his friends and he was thrilled for them. He looked over at Celyn. "Ours must just be waiting," he told the other boy. They would have another shot very soon with the other two clutches on the sands.

Evie was slowly deciding that her lifemate wasn't in this clutch. Of course it shouldn't have surprised her. She was still young and would have many more times to Stand. She stepped out of the ring a bit to let the newly Impressed ones lead their dragonets off to be fed. She glanced around for Siarie, hoping her sister was holding up alright. they may have been fighting but they were still sisters.

[To D'verado/Lorina]

Tes'n quickly got to work on helping the new riders get their dragonets taken care of. He would look up from time to time to see if anyone else had Impressed before going back to helping the new ones. This was exciting.

[To Caid]

Leyran happily brushed the canine, liking his time with Caid and the pretty canine. Randy smiled and soon knelt down beside them. "You're doing a very nice job, Ley," she said gently, flashing Caid a grateful smile. He was the best friend one could have.

The pretty little green wandered around the candidates. She didn’t like that it seemed to her like all her brothers and sisters were Impressing. The delicate green walked up to the candidates and started to sniff at all of them. She refused to be the last one to find Hers. The pretty green soon sat down in front of one of the candidates and looked up. {Mine, your Gensuth is hungry. Could you please feed me?} she asked politely.

The shimmering green was still walking around the candidates mumbling to herself. She nudged one candidate and flicked her tail at another. {No, that one is not Ours either,} she said pleasantly, craning her head to the side. {Ours is here. I know they are.} The green wasn’t about to give up. She investigated a couple more candidates before coming to a decision and sitting down. {Mine, I am Versith. I am hungry and would like to be fed,} she said, getting back to her feet and nudging her chosen’s hand.

Description: Gensuth is a very feminine looking green with small well proportion features. She is a fine example of a dragon with wings that are suitable to her small size. She is not as small as Lluviath but is a close second behind her.. her hide is a rich green colour that reminds one of spring with a couple of other variations of green swirled into her hide.. a very pretty green indeed.

Personality: This dragon has a gift for precision (I.e she never misses a beast in a hunt, or over looks a person on the ground in search – yes, she is a search dragon) and is a very independent type of dragon who does not rely on anyone to accomplish what she feels is necessary. She is one that feels happy when things are going easy and would try to advise her clutchmates against doing anything ‘wrong’ or ‘dangerous’

Description: Versith is small, like most green dragons. She is just below the average height for a dragon her age and colour.. and will always stay in that position, but she doesn’t mind. She likes being small.. it has its positives. Her hide is a mixture of all the greens of her siblings, almost as if one couldn’t decide which tone to paint her in.. and so, one can see mixtures of lights and darks of green in her hide.

Personality: One would think Versith crazy if you heard her talk…and talk she does, a lot… to herself. Yes, that’s right, it appears Versith thinks she has a dragon within her or something and can be heard having whole conversations with herself.. and sometimes ever arguments! She is a dragon that notices everything and the best place to go if you ever need information.. for she’ll only share it if asked, Versith is not a gossip.

Two greens Impressed, and Sade sighed. She seemed to be doing a lot of that today and she belatedly wished that she'd let her firelizard come with her. She could use his steady comfort now, but she'd been afraid he might accidentally scare off a dragonet, and that would be terrible. Despite her deep feelings of dissapointment, she was determined to see the hatching through to the end, though the sands were uncomfortably hot now.

Celyn still watched the bronze, nervously hopeful, while being fairly sure that he was not bronzerider material anyway. He remembered his conversation with Quidel. It looked like they'd likely both be left standing today. Spark, who'd been watching fairly quietly, sensed the distress of his pet and rubbed his little blue head against Celyn's cheek. He reached up and patted the blue gratefully, shifting from foot to foot in nervousness and discomfort.

Quidel stood motionless on the sands as he watched the dragonets. As much as he had figured he wouldn't Impress he had still hoped. He glanced over at Celyn, wondering if his new friend felt the same way. The bronze was still on the Sands, but he didn't seem in a hurry to find anyone and Quidel wasn't sure if he was cut out to be a bronze rider like his father had been. It was hard to stand here and hoped that a dragonet would pick you and still worry that they would look you over. Shards, he had never realized how hard it was to be a candidate.

And suddenly the handsome bronze found himself on his own on the Sands. Well alone with one unhatched egg but the bronze did not appear phased by that. He was a wise dragon who knew His was there waiting for him when he was ready. Getting up from his spot on the sands the spot he had been playing with Valianth, he wandered over to the lone egg and sat watching it gently sway to the hum…it was at the point that the bronze decided he was bored did the remaining egg decide to shatter and release its little blue onto the Sands.
