Kalene and Zunith were at the new Weyr, exploring their new home. Shimmer was also exploring Izoku, but not with the other two. ((We could really do well here,)) Kalene was saying to her brown. ((If you could just catch Authanth, we'd be set.)) Zunith wasn't quite sure why his rider wanted him to catch the gold so badly. He'd chase her or not, but Kalene talking about it wouldn't change whether he tried to mate with the senior gold or not. As of yet, Zunith had never chased a gold, sticking to the occasional greenflight. He just didn't have that same mating drive that bronzes did.
The brownrider, for her part, couldn't figure out why her dragon wasn't more enthusiastic in becoming the senior male dragon. She tried to explain to him how great it would be if he were actually above the bronzes in the Weyr, but he just didn't get it. Kalene was beginning to get somewhat frustrated with her dragon. Why couldn't he just do what she wanted? She walked plateau in silence, Zunith flying above her.
After a few moments of silence, Zunith decided that a few tricks and pranks might cheer his rider up. After all, he loved pranks and he loved his rider, so the two should go together well. He just didn't know what a good prank would be. Then he knew, not a prank really but a trick. He would pull back behind her then between so that he was in front of her. He could do it; he knew he could do it. It would be so astonishing that Kalene would stop thinking such annoyed thoughts and she'd praise him! He knew he wasn't supposed to go between without proper visualization from his rider, but since he could see it all right here, he figured he'd be just fine.
Kalene had no idea what her brown had in mind, or she would have stopped him. As much as the dragon frustrated her sometimes, she loved him. The brown gave a dragon giggle as he fell behind his rider. Kalene stopped for a moment, puzzled. "What?"
Look what I can do! the brown said before popping between. "No wait," Kalene shouted, but far too late to be of any use. A second passed, then another, and Kalene looked around intently to find Zunith popping out of between. The brown did appear, but far too close to the ground. He had severely misjudged his altitude and now he was falling toward the ground. He started to panic, and Kalene tried to keep calm, telling him to just pull up and it would all be alright. Zunith tried, but far too late to make any difference. The young brown dragon plummeted right into the cliffs, and suddenly Kalene felt a great emptiness where Zunith had been.
Kalene collapsed, unable to stand after such a shock. Grief like nothing she had ever felt overcame her and she gasped for breath that would not fill her lungs. The only thing that prevented her from jumping off the cliffs at that moment was the fact that she could barely move. Her gold flit, Shimmer, appeared beside her, keening her distress at her Pet's loss. The gold might not have had the closest relationship with Kalene, but she didn't like seeing her Pet so torn by loss and grief. Moments passed which felt like ages. And then Kalene could breathe, and the sound that escaped her lips was a horrific scream.
OOC: Yes she just got her dragon...but that's why it's more fun to take it away. I'm evil. Lol.
