Southwatch Weyrhold
Home | Availability | Plot | Dragons
AIVAS and the Red Star are forgotten and only Ramoth and Ruth are remembered for their extraordinary sizes. That time is forgotten and Pern has moved on. There are some remnants, however, that the ninth Pass deserves credit for. Electricity is common and guns only moderately uncommon while Threadscore is remembered in a disease that leaves the victim horrendously scarred.
A new system has been created, as the number of dragons diminished enough to conglomerate them into fewer Weyrs. The Weyrs hold larger protectorates now, one thousand turns after the beginning of the ninth Pass, and they have established Watches to protect their borders. Pern has become a more dangerous place and these Watches, typically in the form of Weyrholds, are responsible for keeping that danger out. And for paying tithe in the form of food and candidates to the larger, Bronze and Gold filled Weyrs.
A drought has wracked parts of the Southern continent for the past eight turns and the larders are empty. Southern Weyr calls for their regular Harvest tithe however, and some at Southwatch believe that they should not send it. They barely have enough to feed themselves, why should they support the Weyr as well? There is also a meager clutch of twenty on the sands and the call for candidates has gone out to the Watches. The Weyrhold struggles to bring in its crops and its herds are failing. Hope is dwindling. Will you protect the southern border? Will you allow the Weyr to drain the Watch's stores? Your fate is up to you.

Okay, so Southwatch seems pretty vanilla, whitebread, boring. There are no demons, mutations, or other worlds. There is just the Weyr, the Watch, and the Hold. What is most exciting, however, are the people.
Regular, everyday happenings have the capabilities of turning the Weyrhold on its head. Disease, political tensions, the jungle... the possibilities are endless.
The hatchlings will grow with the game, in both size and personality, and firelizards are more than just arm candy. Every character, creature, and plot has a purpose and while this purpose may only become clear in the long run, they all have a part to play.
So yeah, harvesting potatoes may seem mundane. But you get to have your character interact with others without hell raining down on their heads. And you never know, a simple day of harvesting can turn into pandemonium in a moment.
