[25.8.1164] Join the Ranks (Attn: Alastriona)

N'ean and Canorth were both lounging around the Weyr Bowl, watching people walk around. The bluerider was actually using her blue as a sort of back rest, which the dragon didn't mind at all. Usually Canorth would be sunning up on the ledge, but right now N'ean wanted to be near him. She was still ill at ease regarding the newcomer. In her mind, they didn't need anyone new unless they were Searched. Even then she wasn't sure that a newly Searched candidate should be given a warm welcome. There had certainly been problems with candidates in the past. Dragons, it seemed, didn't always know best.

You'll like her once she has a dragon, Canorth said to his rider. ((Say what?!)) N'ean said turning to look at her blue with astonishment. The blue figured he might as well answer her question by repeating himself. I said you'll like her once she has a dragon. N'ean stood up and walked so that she was looking Canorth right in the eye. "I heard you," she said out loud. "But what made you say that?" After all, Canorth had never been a search dragon, there was no reason to think he could Search anyone. I felt her in my head. She could be a rider. For a few moments N'ean was simply shocked by what her dragon said. He'd gone and Searched someone and hadn't told her. You didn't like her. I didn't want to say anything to upset you, Mine.

N'ean sat herself back down next to the blue, in the same position she had been in. Well shards, she wasn't going to go tell the girl that she could be a Candidate. N'ean trusted her dragon deeply, but not when it came to properly judging people. No, she wasn't going to announce it just yet. If another dragon Searched her, fine...but it wouldn't be Canorth until N'ean felt she could trust the girl.

Now that Canorth had told N'ean, he really wanted her to tell the girl. He hated that N'ean didn't like Alastriona so much that he decided to do something he knew his rider wouldn't like. If N'ean wouldn't properly Search Alastriona, he would. You should go to the Weyr Bowl, the blue said directly to Alastriona, without so much as introducing or explaining himself.

Alastriona gave a start at the sudden voice in her mind. So much so that the little bronze on her shoulder almost lost his balance, for which she apologized. Tr'vin had informed her that one of the eggs she had belonged to N'ean and she had been about to hunt the less than pleasant bluerider down when she had that sudden voice in her mind telling her to go to the bowl. The egg was safely packed away in a pouch and secured, slung over her shoulder like theu had been before. Well she supposed that distributing it could wait, but she didn't want to exactly get into the habit of listening to strange unfamiliar voices in her mind. Still, she left the dining cavern and proceeded out to the bowland stood there looking around for any possible source of the voice, but with the weyr activity level she wasn't even entirely certain she would be able to identify the source.

Luckily for Alastriona, Canorth was looking for her. He had called her, after all, so he wanted to make sure she got to the right place. Here, he said not really realizing the young woman might not be able to tell who's mind-voice had spoken. Mine needs to talk to you. Maybe if he forced them together his rider would tell her that she could be a rider. If not...well, Canorth had already spoken to this non-rider. He'd just tell the girl himself.

N'ean saw the glass smith come out onto the bowl and groaned. It was as if her own thoughts had brought the unwanted girl out. She'd helped distribute some of the eggs, but that hadn't lasted all that long. She had wanted to keep an eye on the girl, but she wasn't about to pretend to be best friends with her just so she could monitor her. Just right now she didn't want to be on watch, so she really didn't want the glass smith to come toward her. Plus, she wasn't altogether sure how easy it'd be to keep the knowledge that the girl could be a Candidate to herself. Maybe she's out here to meet someone and she'll go away.

The glass smith huffed loudly when the voice came back. There were so many dragons out there. . . "I don't exactly know who you are," she grumbled lightly, the bronze on her shoulder not exactly much help either. Groaning softly, she continued to look around, but then saw N'ean and gave a small smile. Well just because she couldn't figure out who it was who'd called her out here didn't mean that she couldn't go over and talk to the bluerider who was so suspicious of her, and that's what she did, unwittingly doing exactly what Canorth wanted.

"Good day, Lady N'ean," she said politely, perhaps overly so. "You know. . . I've only got one of those eggs left. . . So you're just the person that I was looking for. Tr'vin told me, and I do hope that he was right, that it's Canorth's here, so naturally it would go to you," she said with a grin, pulling on the egg in her pouch not even realizing that her presence there was serving more than one purpose in that moment.

Both N'ean and Canorth watched as Alastriona came toward them, though their reactions to it were quite different. Canorth was glad that the girl was following his directions and N'ean was just annoyed. When Alasriona addressed her with what N'ean considered the wrong title, her annoyance just grew. So instead of thanking Alastriona for the egg, she said, "I am Bluerider N'ean, Dragonrider N'ean, or even Wingrider N'ean....but I am certainly not Lady N'ean." This was the person Canorth thought should be a Candidate? Someone who didn't even know how to properly address riders? Absurd!

Canorth, on the other hand, was focusing on what she'd said about his dragon egg. I came from what is in your bag? he asked the glass smith curiously.

Tria found herself quickly aggravated at the other woman but barely managed to keep it from showing. "Pardon me then....I was merely trying to be polite, and as I've always been taught any rider may be called lord or lady, particularly by those of us who have no rank at all, that's just what came to mind first I suppose. However, I shall keep that in mind in the future, Dragonrider N'ean," she sated simply. There...that would show her! She hoped. . .

Canorth's voice startled her again but this time she knew who was speaking to her. Well then that would certainly bruise the bluerider before her, she was sure, her own blue talking to the woman she held so much suspicion towards. "Well, yes Canorth, it is a representative of the egg you came from, if Tr'vin was correct that is," she answered the blue, and as "mean hadn't taken the bag from her yet she would withdraw the egg for the two of them to see.

"Well you were taught wrong," N'ean said. Technically it was true that a dragonrider could be called Lady, sure, but to N'ean's mind it was perhaps more rude than simply using her name without any title. To equate her to some holder was insulting! She was actually ready to get up and leave, even with out the egg, when the glass smith started talking directly to Canorth. Why you little... N'ean said to Canorth, shooting her blue an angry look.

Canorth ignored his rider's comment and peered down at the egg Tria showed them. That's what I cam from? he asked his rider. Pretty much, yeah, N'ean said as she also looked at the glass egg. She wouldn't admit it to anyone but herself, but it was a sharding good representation. "Yeah I suppose that looks similar," she said with a shrug of pretended indifference.

Tell her or I will, Canorth said to N'ean realizing that even after all this his rider was going to keep the Searching a secret. You can be such a pain, N'ean answered, though she wasn't really surprised. If her dragon would talk to this potential Candidate once he'd probably do it again. "Well since Canorth has given me no choice," she said to the glass smith angrily. "I'll tell you that he Searched you."

Tria was, quite understandably, upset by the rider's obvious indifference towards what she had put so muc htime and effort to for the riders. She put the egg back in the bag and re-extended her arm out for the other girl to take. "Well it's yours, not mine," she said, voice stiff. She couldn't care less what N'ean had to say about what she called her. She knew that she hadn't been taught wrong, because her last trip to the weyr there'd been no issues. Actually it'd been that trip that she learned that she could indeed call riders by those two titles.

Then...well she found out something that would probably change the rest of her stay at the weyr, even the weyr's attitude towards her. The anger in N'ean's voice startled her nearly as much as the words that she spoke. Was the bluerider angry that this newcommer had been deemed worthy by her own dragon to stand? Or was she angry that her blue had been speaking to her? "Well...thank you for letting me know then," she stated simply, still trying to get passed the shock that she'd been Searched in the first place. "And thank you, Canorth," she added to the blue. Despite this news, she didn't want to stick around much longer, the rider's attitude towards her very quickly grating on her nerves.

N'ean took the bag with the egg in it as though she could care less. However, she did care and so the bluerider made sure that she didn't break the glass. At hearing his name again, the blue gave a nod of his head. He wouldn't talk to Tria again, or at least not unless he needed to. He had said what he needed to say, and that was that. Plus, as much as Canorth was a tempermental dragon, he didn't like angering his rider and he knew that continuing to make Tria hear him would upset N'ean.

N'ean rolled her eyes at Tria's reply and humphed. "And I suppose you have no idea what you're meant to do next, hm?"

The glass smith almost told her to be careful when she saw the non-chalant way that she took the bag, but then didn't. As much as finding out that it'd been damaged might hurt her, she didn't want to give N'ean cause to disdain her anymore than she already did, so she stayed silent on the matter, an eyebrow raising at the next question that was thrown her way.

"I think I know fair well enough what to do, and if not, I'm sure I can ask about. No need to take up more of your time," she answered then. Letting the annoyance she was feeling towards the bluerider none by her voice. She was tired of N'ean's behavior. Just because you didn't necessarily trust someone didn't mean you needed to be rude towards them, and N'ean had long passed the line of rude and into the territory of, perhaps, somewhat insulting.

N'ean was surprised that Tria didn't say anything about handling the glass carefully. So apprently after all the fuss made, this glass smith didn't even care about her own work. Of course, had Alastriona said anything about handling it carefully, N'ean would have been insulted and taken offense. The glass smith couldn't have won N'ean over no matter what she did. She set the bag against Canorth, who was more obviously careful around the egg. He rather liked the idea of having his egg sitting in their weyr.

N'ean didn't have any Search tokens on her, as until now Canorth hadn't been a Search dragon. Plus, it wasn't really necessary for something like that when she was already at the Weyr. But it was still bad form to do nothing to help the newly searched. As much as N'ean disliked Tria, she was still a dragonrider. What's more, being a good dragonrider was important to her. "Look we're the ones that Searched you so we're the ones that will make sure you get to the right place. You met Lorina yet?"

Tria shrugged and shook her head. "No, however it's not that hard to find people around here. Really I'm sure that I'll be able to figure it out well enough," she said, though she didn't move to leave. She highly doubted that N'ean's sudden apparent bout of helpfulness was really that at all, but she didn't exactly want to push the other woman away. One coul dnever know what the right thing was to get another on your side, and for all she knew, allowing N'ean to 'assist' her in this matter might be one of those things to make the bluerider relax about her.

N'ean frowned at Tria's answer, shaking her head. "Look, I'm not having you running around this Weyr asking for the Candidate Master. I don't want people thinking that the first person my Canorth searched didn't even get proper instructions on what to do next." It was perhaps rude to admit that the only reason she cared was for her own reputation, but N'ean didn't really care.

After a moment more she turned to start walking toward Lorina's office. ((Would you let Descanth know we're heading toward Lorina's office?)) she asked her blue, and he forwarded the message to the CM's green.

"Ah but see you have. You've given me all the instruction that I need....go speak to the candidate master," she retorted quietly, though N'ean had already turned and started walking away from her by that point in time. "Just so you know, there's plenty of other, far more pleasant people here that I can ask..." she grumbled to herself softly, just barely loud enough for Dru to hear, who chirped plaintively. Even the little bronze had to agree he didn't think the blue rider was all that particularly pleasant. But since N'ean seemed to already be leading the way, and she didn't want to come across as rude but just refusing the follow, she relunctantly trudged along.

Lorina, however, was quickly finding herself in a bind that she would have to go discuss with the leadership. As things stood right now, the one candidate they had would not, by any means, be sufficient for Authanth's upcoming clutch. And with tensions with the holds being so high, something told her the likelihood of her gaining any new candidates from the holds was very little, which was why she currently had historical records spread out in front of her on her desk. Descanth passed on the message, which made her curious, but she acknowledged and the green replied that hers was indeed in her office and would be waiting. Nevermind the mess...

N'ean didn't quite hear what Tria said, except that she mentioned something about pleasant people. "Well too bad they didn't Search you," she responded. Why her blue had to Search this candidate, N'ean didn't know. She came up to the office as her difficult blue told her that Lorina would be waiting inside. "Great," N'ean said out loud, though by now Canorth was far enough away that he couldn't hear her voice.

She gave a quick knock then opened the door and walked in, leaving it open for Alastriona to follow. "I've got a new Candidate for you," N'ean said in a none-too-happy tone of voice.

OOC: Of course...right after I send you that PM, I happen upon the post I was talking about. LOL!
