Personality: Kasimir is stern man who seems very cold and aloof. He doesn't engage in much social activity besides what is required and he never volunteers information about himself. He is not a cruel person, but he is hard to please, and he rarely praises. His criticism can seem overly harsh as well and he is bluntly honest. He doesn't tolerate shirking or bullying, though he will rarely overlook rule-breaking for a just cause. However, he is an honorable man, he always keeps his word, and does his duty to the letter. He is the type of person who is naturally protective to those weaker than him, and even though he doesn't show it, he does care for others, especially the Candidates. As hard as he is on them, he is even harder on himself, and has never forgiven himself for the death of his lover and child, or of his dragon. Perhaps if he ever took a new lover, he could recover somewhat, but most people are too put off by him to try.
Physical description: Kasimir is tall and broad-shouldered, perhaps around 6'3", and he keeps himself in excellent shape, so he is well-muscled but lean. His skin is pale gold, and his hair is dark auburn, almost blood colored. He keeps it cut fairly short, but its naturally wild, and a source of frustration for him. He has squarish features which go well with his stern demeanor. He always dresses neatly, in clothes of good fabric that fit well but are not ostentatious. he prefers dark colors, like navy, black and maroon and doesn't wear jewelry except for a small silver ring which he never removes.
History:
Kasimir was born in Benden weyr, the third child of two riders, who had twins two turns previously. He, like his brothers, was primarily raised by a foster mother, but he knew his parents and had a decent relationship with them. He had a normal childhood, and was strong adventurous boy who got along with his peers. He always wanted to be a dragonrider, and he never even really considered taking a craft, though his father finally convinced him to take up smithing just in case. He began to stand at the age of ten, being a large and strong boy but he didn't Impress brown Tuorth until he was sixteen, becoming K'mir. He did well in his weyrling training, being dutiful as well as a natural leader. By the time he was in his mid-twenties he was already a wingsecond, and Tuorth was big enough that he might even become a wingleader.
When he was 24, he met a green-rider from Telgar Weyr named Arelia, with whom he was immediately smitten. The saw each other on and off for several months, and Tuorth won Cerneth's greenflight with ease. Soon, Arelia found that she was pregnant. K'mir applied for a transfer to Telgar, but was unaware that a bronzerider there, who had always had a thing for Arelia, was doing his best to slow down the process. And then, somethings terrible happened. When she was eight months along, a freak accident caused her to take a bad fall and she went into labor early. The baby boy was delivered safely, small but healthy, but Arelia died before she could even name her child and her panicked green went between. K'mir arrived too late. And to add insult to injury, the bronzerider found him first and told him the baby had died. Crushed and despondent, he returned to Benden, and the bronzerider, Q'dim, raised the baby as his own until his bronze was taken by the plague. He went between, leaving the boy Quidel on his own, where he eventually came to Izuko.
Meanwhile, K'mir threw himself into smithing and drgonriding, withdrawing into himself. People thought he would recover eventually, and he may have, if not for the plague. Tuorth died in 1155. K'mir was too stubborn to go between, but only just. He fell into a deep depression, and out of a desire to be away from the weyr, he moved to Southern Boll Hold, and made his way to journeyman level in smithing, trying to forget the past. But when one of his surviving friends contacted him about the need for an assistant candidate master after the move to Izuko Island, he surprised himself by accepting. For some reason, he felt that the dragons needed him, and though he doesn't like to be around them very much, duty is more important than suffering.
