Name: S’ov
Age: 23 (Birthdate: 1141.03.05)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Rank: Wingrider
Birthplace: Vintner Crafthall at Benden
Family: Mother: Sarda, 44, Sr JM Vintner, Vintner Hall
Father: Wilnov, 48, Sr JM Vintner, Vintner Hall
Sister: Warda, 25, JM Vintner, Vintner Hall

Other cousins, nieces, grandparents, etc: see “S’ov’s Family Tree” in album: s448.photobucket.com/albums/qq208/hrn212/
Personality: S’ov is great at handling people and sees the good, and the potential, in everyone. He is also a very kind, supportive person. So S’ov never manipulates people for his own ends, but does handle people to cheer someone up, or help others. He likes making people feel good, and so he does what he can to help them out. He’ll even go through the trouble of hiding his own personal opinions in order to boost someone else up higher. He often doesn’t take credit for his own work if he can help someone else by giving the credit to them. This means that if someone wished to, they could walk all over him. He’d let someone treat him like dirt if it helped out that person at all. He doesn’t deal with reasoning and logic except how it applies to people. To him abstract laws or social conventions don’t matter, except for how they apply to people.
Because of this need to make everyone around him happy, S’ov often feels as though no one around him really knows him. He’s so busy supporting everyone around him he rarely gets a chance to show his inner emotions or opinions. He doesn’t do this on purpose; it’s just the way S’ov is. Because of this S’ov sometimes feels a bit lonely, even if he’s surrounded by people. The only one he’s ever felt he has truly opened himself to is his dragon, Oibnith.
S’ov is also interested in a great many things. He’s generally talented at whatever he’s tried to do. When he was a child he tried out a few different crafts before picking one, and he was equally talented in all of them. Once something’s caught his interest, he can generally accomplish anything.
Physical description: S’ov has dirty blonde, wavy, hair that he currently has in a rider’s crop. He has lighter blonde highlights through his hair that have become more visible since he’s moved to the sunny Tristar. He has his father’s hazel eyes that are a too bit narrow for his face. S’ov’s skin is light with a slightly yellow hue to it, though his nose is generally a few shades darker from his time in the sun. He stands at 5’9” and was a bit on the thin side. He’s becoming more muscular as he continues in his Weyrling training.
History: S’ov, was born Sarnov, the second child and first son to Journeymen Vinters Wilnov and Sarda at the Vintner Crafthall. Once his younger sister, Wilnarda, was born, Sarnov spent most of his time with her. Wilnarda was constantly causing mischief, and Sarnov would follow right after her. Whenever they got caught, Sarnov always took the blame. He couldn’t stand the thought of his little sister getting punished for something they both did, so he’d say he forced her to join him. Their older sister Warda was more often then not off playing with Sarnov’s cousins. He and his sister Wilnarda could often be found amongst them, Wilndarda trying to convince them all to join in on some elaborate scheme or prank.
At the age of 11 Sarnov started trying to figure out which craft he wanted to join. He had an interest in most of them, and so he tried his hand at a great number. His singing voice was adequate, but then he was equally able to handle all that was involved in caring for the injured or sick. Sarnov was very adept at remembering the different qualities of all the different types of grapes, but then he could also remember all sorts of information about herdbeast and runner bloodlines. It turned out that Sarnov was equally suited to pretty much every craft offered at the Vintner Hall or Benden Hold. The only crafts he didn’t try were the mine, smith, and fisher crafts, but that was only because they weren’t available nearby.
At the age of 13, Sarnov finally chose the tanner craft. He was fascinated with all of the many things that could be made with hide. Everything from clothing to riding straps. It seemed as though the possibilities were endless. So Sarnov moved to Benden Hold where there was a tanner willing to take him on as an apprentice. In that same turn his sister Wilnarda had chosen to stay at the Vintner Hall and join the family craft. His parents were quite disappointed that Sarnov hadn’t done the same. Though he missed his sister, he was glad that he’d chosen the tanner craft. Besides, Benden and the Vintner Hall were close enough that he still saw his family often, though his parents were never too happy to have him around.
Right around the same time as he apprenticed, Sarnov realized he wasn’t like the other young men at Benden. At least, he wasn’t like any of the other men he knew at Benden. While they all talked about which girls they found the best looking, Sarnov found himself feeling quite neutral about the topic. He could agree that some of the girls did look prettier than others, but he wasn’t really attracted to them. In fact, Sarnov soon realized he wasn’t attracted to girls at all, but was quite interested in boys. He didn’t mention it to anyone, especially not his parents. They’d been disappointed enough when he’d become a tanner; he couldn’t imagine how ashamed they be when they discovered this.
Sarnov eventually did meet other boys at Benden that were interested in him in the same way he was interested in them. He had his fair share of awkward, teenage, romances, though Sarnov and his various partners always kept it hidden. Even so, Sarnov’s secret was eventually revealed. One of the boys Sarnov had been with had decided, in a fit of rebellion, to announce to his parents that he was in fact a lover of men. The boy also felt it necessary to name Sarnov’s name as ‘proof’ that he wasn’t just making it up, that he did actually have a lover. This boys parents immediately informed Sarnov’s parents and they immediately called him to have a ‘talk.’
His parents had been planning an arranged marriage between Sarnov and an apprentice Vintner from another family of vinters. They had, in fact, planned such marriages for all of their children. This was part of why they had been so disappointed he hadn’t joined the family craft. They had managed to convince the family to continue with the marriage, assuring them that Sarnov’s children would all be pushed toward the Vintner craft. Now that Sarnov had been revealed as a lover of men, his parent’s weren’t sure they could salvage the marriage. This was just as well to Sarnov, who had no wish to marry a woman. However his parents assured him that they would do all they could to make sure he did, in fact, marry this young Vintner.
Sarnov was forced to move back to his family’s home at the Vintner hall. He was told he could go to Benden Hold for lessons in his craft, and that is all. He wasn’t to spend any free time at the Hold, and he certainly wasn’t allowed to spend any time alone with any young men. Even though his lover had been the cause of all these problems, Sarnov couldn’t find it in himself to be angry. He reasoned that his lover must have had a great desire to tell his parents the truth, and that now that he had done so his lover was better off. He hoped that his parent’s had taken it better than Sarnov’s. He also couldn’t really be angry with his parents. They were just reacting the only way they knew how. He hated that he was mostly confined to their home, and he hated that they couldn’t accept him. He knew there was no way he could change. But he still didn’t hate his parents.
Sarnov longed to be one of those lucky few who were Searched. He knew he had dragonriders in his family, though they had lost their dragons in the Plague. Then, when Sarnov was 15 turns old, a dragon came and Searched his cousins. He’d tried to get as close to the great dragon as he could, hoping that he too would be Searched. Unfortunately his parents were still quite restrictive of his movements. He still wasn’t allowed anywhere near Benden Hold for fear he would fall back into his old habits. So the search dragon passed him by, and he was left with nothing but his tanner craft.
It turns out the arranged marriage was salvaged, but just barely. Sarnov never really did find out how his parents had managed to get the girl’s family to agree to be handfasted to him. The handfasting was planned for a few days after the girl turned 17, which would be half a turn after Sarnov turned 19. Sarnov spent his 19th birthing day in quiet sorrow. He’d resigned himself to his fate, but he didn’t like it. His parents had become a bit more relaxed in his restrictions. He’d convinced them it had just been a phase he’d gotten over, though he knew that wasn’t the truth. He’d also convinced them he could hardly be expected to excel at the tanner craft when he didn’t have regular contact with another tanner. True to his word, Sarnov didn’t take any lovers, but it was simply out a fear that his parents would find out.
Then about two months after he’d turned 19, a search dragon again came to Benden. This time he got a chance to get close to it, and Sarnov was Searched. Sarnov was so happy he burst into tears. His parents nearly refused to let him go, reminding him of his obligation to the young Vintner girl. Sarnov used his well developed ability to persuade people in this one instance to convince them to let him go. He reminded them that having a dragonrider for a son would be far more prestigious than a simple tanner, particularly if he rode brown or bronze. He also argued that if the girl and her parents were willing, she could always join him at the weyr. It was true that being handfasted to a rider was quite different than being handfasted to a holder or crafter. But Sarnov had managed to convince them, and they allowed him to leave. It was just Sarnov’s luck that the girl’s family refused to let her go off to the Weyr; they wouldn’t have her associated with any rider, or weyrfolk. By the time Sarnov’s parents heard this news, it was too late. They had already given their permission for Sarnov to leave, and his parents never went back on their word.
The Hatching occurred within his first month at Tristar. He hadn’t expected much; he was just glad to finally be in a place where he could love who he wished. When a little ocean-blue dragon came up to him, Sarnov was quite surprised. {{My name is Oibnith and you are mine,}} he said sternly in a tone that didn’t allow for any argument. Then Oibnith added, {{And you will feed me and then I will sleep,}} in the same authoritative tone. Sarnov wrapped his hands around the little blue dragonet and ushered him away, agreeing to do anything he could to make Oibnith happy.
Within a couple months into his Weyrlinghood and S’ov lost touch with his parents. He still keeps in contact with his sisters, but only sporadically. He learned of Wilnarda walking the tables to Journeywoman and sent her congratulations. If his sister Warda has another child, he will send her congratulations too. But he doesn’t hear anything from his parents. He’s aware that his cousin N’nes is a Weyrling from his class, but the two don’t interact much. S’ov does spend time with his other cousin, Shibora. The two both ride blue, and Shibora always seems eager to talk to him.
S’ov also recently started talking to Ardalae more. He offered to help her with her riding straps, though really his offer was to make them for her. S’ov also took her to the Gather, and really quite enjoyed himself.
In the earthquakes S'ov managed to fall down a flight of stairs and break his leg. He was helped to his dragon and made it to Igen, but he was unable to do much of anything for months. It took all of three months for his leg to fully heal. He was just getting settled in Igen and now he hears they are moving someplace else. S'ov is well aware of the situation with the holders and raiders, and he hopes that the move will help everyone at the Weyr. He figures what everyone could use is a bit of peace and quiet.
