For Weyrmate’s Family see “Jisdol’s Family Tree” in album: s448.photobucket.com/albums/qq208/hrn212/
Personality: P’ord is an easily adaptable person. He adapted to fit in with hold life quite easily, and in much the same way he adapted when he came to the Weyr. There are a few things he’s quite stuck on, however. He’s retained all of his holdbred behavior and attitudes that he felt he didn’t have to change in order to fit into Weyrlife. For example, he’s still quite polite to women, especially strangers. However, he no longer flirts with women at all.
P’ord usually thinks things through before saying or doing anything. He will consider the consequences of something before taking any action. He’s often been forced to apologize for something Y’gar said or did. P’ord will also often warn Y’gar when he’s being impolite.
Physical description: P’ord has dark brown hair that’s actually quite curly. He keeps it in a riders crop and even before he was a rider he kept it quite short. He has tan skin and green eyes that are a little close together. He’s an otherwise handsome young man, though he isn’t overly handsome. As a dragonrider, P’ord keeps in shape. He’s quite tall.
History: Piljord was born the last child to two weavers in the Weaver Hall. He was, in point of fact, a complete accident. His parents were sure they were done having children, and then his mother Pingarra became pregnant with him. The birth wasn’t too difficult, luckily enough. He learned simple sewing even from a young age, just like the rest of his siblings. Though, by the time he was born his oldest brother was already an apprentice weaver and his second-oldest brother had already been Searched. Within the first couple turns of his life, his sister Toljarra also apprenticed as a weaver. Although he still saw Toljarra and Pijord, it wasn’t often. They were too busy with their craft to spend much time with him. He did make childhood friends with other children in the Hall.
His family was rather hidebound about pretty much everything. There was the proper way to do things, and one shouldn’t waver from it. It was odd, considering Pingarra’s parents were both riders, but that didn’t seem to matter to her. It was possible that part of the reason she had left the Weyr was to move to a more rigid and stable setting. So Piljord grew up knowing all the proper ways to behave and he basically tried to follow them.
At around the age of 13 he realized he was attracted to boys, and he actually asked his mother about it. She didn’t get angry or yell at him. She just calmly explained that it was unnatural, and wrong, and that he’d better figure out a way to like girls. So he didn’t tell anyone else about it and from then on pretended that he was as interested in girls as the rest of the boys at the Weaver Hall. After the conversation with his mother he realized that he never had much contact with his brother P’gord, who had by now Impressed. The few times P’gord ever came to the Hall he stayed briefly. Piljord wondered whether this might be because of Pingarra and Toljord’s attitudes toward anything ‘different.’
It was in the same turn, his 13th, he apprenticed as a weaver at the Hall. Piljord wasn’t exactly a great weaver, but he did alright. He knew that in time he’d do well enough to at become a Senior Journeyman, at least. Also, he saw more of his two siblings who were also weavers. They were far ahead of him, of course, but at least now he might find them in the dining hall around the same time that he was in it. Through all of his apprenticeship, Piljord continued to hide that he was attracted to boys.
In fact, he took a great interest in the girls at the Hall in order to compensate and refused to find out whether there were other boys at the Hall who might be interested in him. He had a reputation for being quite the womanizer, even at his young age. Certainly he didn’t actually sleep with the girls at first, he was young and that would have been improper. However, around the age of 16, Piljord did start sleeping with any of the young women who would risk their reputation. Part of this was due to his continued need to prove that he was attracted to women. However, this was also right about the time of the Plague, and his brother’s dragon along with his brother, were claimed by it. Piljord took comfort wherever he could; and it happened to come most readily from the young women at the Hall. As a result of all this his reputation as a philanderer skyrocketed.
He found out much later that the Plague also claimed Pingarra’s parents’ dragons. Both of her parents killed themselves soon after. Not long after the Plague, Piljord was Searched for the two remaining clutches that were sitting on the Sands at the newly named Tristar. He was frightened that the Plague might again hit, but he went anyway. Piljord saw this as an opportunity to escape the lie he’d created for himself. He knew as well as anyone that the Weyr would be a place where horrendous behavior would be accepted, and as his mother had told him, his attraction to young men was horrendous.
Piljord didn’t Impress at that first hatching, but that was okay. He threw himself into Weyrlife, and slept with every man, his age or older, who would have him. There weren’t many, in part because the Weyr’s population was so depleted. In every other way, however, Piljord retained all of his upbringing. He remained a proper and well behaved young man, even if he did sleep with every man that was willing. That all stopped once he met Yirgar.
Yirgar arrived less than a month before a clutch on the Sands was due to hatch. Even so, Piljord fell for him instantly. In all his other exploits, Piljord had always kept himself emotionally distant and closed off. With Yirgar it was different. Piljord met him on the day that Yirgar arrived. In fact, Piljord helped Yirgar carry his bags into the candidate barracks. Within a few days he and Yirgar were hopelessly in love.
Then the Hatching took place and Yirgar Impressed a brown and became Y’gar. Piljord was somewhat jealous that Y’gar Impressed, and also annoyed that now they would have to remain celibate. Or at least, they’d have to remain celibate for about a turn. Just a few months after Y’gar Impressed, however, it was Piljord’s turn. So after that they were both forced into celibacy for the same reason, and Piljord wasn’t just celibate for the sake of Y’gar.
On the day that Piljord Impressed and became P’ord, he was standing with the other Candidates, willing a dragon to him. P’ord wasn’t even looking at any dragon in particular; he just wanted a dragon. Then an average looking green took a few steps toward him. }:Mine. You are Mine,:{ she called to him. He smiled and bent down to hug her. “What’s your name, silly?” She looked thoughtfully at him for a few moments before saying, }:Oh! Zinauth, of course.:{ “Of course,” P’ord echoed as he led his green off the Sands toward food.
He and P’ord remained together, even through the celibacy. When Zinauth rose for the first time Y’gar’s Cuevath didn’t chase, but that was alright. At least it meant that the two of them could finally resume the romantic aspect to their relationship. Just a few days after the Gather, P’ord was given the okay to move into his own weyr. Unsurprisingly, he moved in with Y’gar. When he arrived and he saw the specially made pillow and blanket on the bed, he was elated. Unfortunately the blanket and pillow were both destroyed in the disaster at Tristar.
On the day of the volcano and earthquake that shattered Tristar, P'ord was able to make it to safety and help in the evacuation. He even managed to convince Y'gar to help get people safely to Igen. While the deaths of so many, and the continued attacks by the Holders have affected him, P'ord has managed to hold up pretty well. In some ways, he sees this whole situation as yet another time when he has to adapt, and so that's what he does.
