Age: 26
Gender: female
Sexual Orientation: hetero
Rank: Candidate Master
Birthplace: Katz Field Hold (Igen/Benden Territory)
Family: all deceased
Personality:
Lorina is a very shy, yet caring young woman. She has a tendency to
do well with younger children, and so tries constantly to help them
out. Yet, despite being shy, Lorina can be very outspoken, to a
point where she could cause trouble. Normally, that's only when she
sees something that she feels is wrong and she goes to correct the
person or, in the case of mistreatment, practically yell at that
person. She won't back down when she feels she is in the right and
the other person in the wrong, which can, in some cases, be
dangerous.
Lorina is also a very loyal person. For those that befriend her,
she will constantly be by their side and defend them. It's simply
a matter of getting Lorina to get to know her well enough so that
you can break through her shyness and become a friend. Beware those
who become her enemy, or break her trust. She has a powerful wrath
that can cause Hold-wide chaos if she wishes it to. Yet, this side
of her is rare, so when seen can be, frankly, scary.
Lorina has one thing, though, that she never mentions. She hates
her younger sister with a passion. She's not jealous of Kiala, but
merely hates how easy-going she can be…and how problematic.
Therefore, Lorina will never been seen with Kiala. If she is in
the presence of the younger girl, chances are she's lecturing her
(yelling is more like it) about something that chances are Kiala
didn't do.
Physical description:
Lorina likes to keep her light brown hair cut short, normally no
longer than her chin. Then, she attempts to pull back as much as
she can, just to keep it out of her face. What won't go up, she
tucks behind her ears or cuts, forming her bangs. Lorina's skin is
an every varying tan. The darker the tan, the more noticeable her
freckles are. She had tiny, chocolate brown eyes, a regular nose,
and pale lips. She has a short, barely even noticeable scar on her
cheek from where she was knifed while trying to defend a two-turn-
old from his parents.
Lorina stands at about five and a half feet tall and is very thin.
From distant appearances, she's nothing but bones, knees, and
elbows, and, all being said, she isn't all that graceful either.
She never really cares about what she's wearing, as long as it's
comfortable for where ever it is that she is that day.
Lorina expresses her emotions through her eyes and has learned to
keep the rest of her face blank. You can tell how she is feeling
simply by looking at her eyes. If she is mad, her dark brown eyes
will seem to be thundering and even darker. When she is happy, her
dark brown eyes lighten in color and twinkle with mirth. She does,
however, blush, if only slightly, but even what ever it is that is
making her blush can be seen more in her eyes than her face.
History:
Lorina was born in Katz Field Hold, just off of Nerat Bay and across
the water from Keroon and less than a day's ride to Big Bay Hold.
At the time she was born, she had two older, twin brothers named
Kinal and Loran, both of whom were fifteen. Her father, Lodan,
worked at the races Katz hosted every turn doing whatever he could
while her mother, Kata, helped the local Harper teach the
children. During the off-season, when no races were held, Lodan
helped the farmers with their beasts. A few months after she was
born, Kinal was searched by Benden and left only to go Impress a
blue by the name of Mkath.
Then, when Lorina was five turns old, Lodan mysteriously
disappeared, never to be heard from again by his family until word
came during the plague that he had died from a racing accident.
Not knowing what to do, Kata took her daughter and Loran to Big Bay
Hold to live with her parents. A few months later, Kata was married
to a Harper by the name of Bodan.
Lorina had a younger sibling the next year who Kata and Bodan named Kiala. By that time, though, Lorina was well involved in her
lessons and didn't pay much attention to her new sister. She
barely even noticed when Loran married to a farmer's daughter and
moved to Keroon.
Then the plague struck, forcing Lorina to take notice of the world
around her. It was then, while she helped take care of the
children, that she found out how much she truly loved to help other
people and she became a crèche worker. Loran's wife sent word soon after the beginning of the plague of his death and the death of
their only child, both due to a fire she had barely escaped. Soon
after, Kata died from her own fever.
Not knowing what do to, Lorina sent for her older brother, Kinal,
and received only a letter in return that he had suicided shortly
after Mkath had gone between. Left alone with only her younger
sister, who she quickly grew to despise, Lorina decided to stay in
Big Bay and continue to help with the younger children.
Then, finally, a break in the plague came. Both girls continued to
work with the children who needed their help, though Lorina noted
that Kiala was less serious about the matter and she quickly grew to
hate her fun-loving younger sister. Then, word came that Ista,
renamed TriStar, had a two clutches on its sands, each with a queen.
The girls both stood when the Search came around. They were glad
when they were both chosen to go to Ista and stand when the clutches hatched. Each left Big Bay with hopes of being able to help Pern in a much more important way.
When the hatching of Ista's clutch finally arrived, and Lorina choose to stand, her fun loving and friendly nature seemed to have paid off, for green Descanth had chosen her.
Everything went well for Lorina in her training. In fact, everything was going perfectly until her sister decided to up and disappear from the Weyr. Lorina was quite upset and insisted on being foremost in the search, but Taenia wouldn't have it. Eventually Lorina had to be grounded, which upset the green-rider greatly. But that didn't stop her and Taenia from becoming and being great friends.
When Taenia was kidnapped by the raiders, Lorina was one of the first ones to go hunting for her. She was also the person who heard and answered Delkth's and Outlath's call for help when the pair came north, but instead went searching for the weyrwoman. An accident ended up making her their hostage too, and while she was with them, she had to endure unspeakable acts.
Thankfully she survived and made it to return to the weyr, but she came back a changed person. While things were still somewhat normal for her, she was more skittish around men in general. She never told anyone what had happened until the day that Desa rose, entirely off schedule. Lorina freaked and locked herself in her weyr, refusing to attend to the flight. K'levan later hunted her down, and that was when she had to tell what had happened. The next day she ran into the other rider who'd suffered from the flight and had recieved a much less hospitable response.
Then Taenia was arrested. Lor knew of what had been happening to the goldrider, how T'jas had been assaulting and abusing her, how that had been the result of the goldrier's miscarriage. She now waits to adamently defend the weyrwoman, while attempting to condemn the weyrleader. Nothing could possibly change her opinion about him.
Such didn't go as well as she expected. The weyr didn't see things the way that she did. That trial getting passed, things returned to normal for a long while until the volcano and earthquake. Then, in charge of the candidates, Lorina did what she could, despite having to deal with the death of her only living family member. Now, she continues to handle the candidates, though she's not quite so active about the weyr as she used to be. Maybe being the only person alive from her family, and loosing her sister, took a toll on her greater than she knew.
