((Self-post))
It had only been a few days since Oreath caught Josiath. Sometimes, he wondered if this was all just one very vivid dream. Bits and pieces whirled through his mind at random moments, and he tried his best to sort them all out...
...the morning after the Flight he woke up unsure of where he was. It took him a few moments to come to full consciousness, but he quickly figured out what had happened. Laying next to him was a very pregnant Shayna, his arm was protectively wrapped around her belly while her hand rested on top of his. Curled up at his back was Ardalae; the Junior Goldrider was pressed in close to him, and M'riel thought he sensed a fourth person in the bed. Lifting his head and turning his neck slightly, he caught a glimpse of a much younger man cuddled with Arda. Four people were all in the same bed, all of them without a single stitch of clothing, the furs between them dampened from sweat.
He fought the rising gorge in his stomach. M'riel had no way of knowing who wound up Flying who, but he'd be Betweened to explain this to anyone should they happen to come in unannounced. Especially since this wasn't his weyr. It was Shayna's, and the Goldrider had been sharing it with a certain Bluerider named R'bao. He tried to think. Josiath had Risen...he was the first to come to Shayna's weyr while Oreath gave Chase... Ardalae came in and stood next to Shayna...R'bao came in, then left after it came down to only two Riders...
...when had K'ryn come in?
It had to have been during the Flight. The four of them wound up under the furs together somehow; K'ryn came in just as Shayna and M'riel were about to become very involved with each other with Arda watching. What had happened then he wasn't so sure; the only thing he could vaguely remember was K'ryn suggesting to him that the ladies switch partners, and somehow Arda wound up with him. He thought he had released inside of Ardalae, but he couldn't quite remember. As he was trying to sort everything out, Shayna's water wound up breaking; M'riel had ordered everyone awake and to quickly dress. He'd given Shayna his shirt to wear to cover herself; Oreath was doing his best to keep Josiath calm. The new Weyrleader instructed K'ryn to have his Bronze summon R'en for medical assistance; the Healer quickly arrived and R'bao came in soon after during the confusion. Poor Shayna was gripping R'bao's hand tightly while she was being moved onto the stretcher; M'riel and K'ryn wound up running as fast as they could to the Infirmary while R'en did his best to keep his two patients as stable as possible.
Sanyara was safely delivered, albeit she was very tiny. Eodira managed to save the Weyrwoman's daughter; M'riel quickly slipped out of the Infirmary to avoid a possible confrontation between himself and R'bao. Only a couple of days later did the dragons start to stir, and M'riel had called a meeting to discuss the situation at hand and to put forth his plan of action. Yet in the back of his mind, he knew R'bao would blame him for causing Shayna to go into premature labor, for nearly costing the Bluerider the life of his daughter.
Now that Shayna was the official Weyrwoman, M'riel could now legally claim his right as Weyrleader to share her bed if he so chose. Still, he knew R'bao wasn't going to be happy, and in spite of his best efforts to give the Bluerider a wide berth M'riel still felt a twinge of hostility and jealousy directed towards him. M'riel also fought the occasional twinge of guilt that ran through his veins; the only woman he had ever stayed true to was Noemi. Sharing Shayna's bed was practically the equivalent of infidelity to him, even though the Weyrwoman was a very vivid reminder of the love he had lost, the memories fading into a time of future past.
He also was struggling with maintaining his professionalism and sense of duty versus his feelings for Shayna. Likewise, proving to the Riders of this time that he was a very capable, if not highly intelligent, leader. There would also be the matter of dealing with the various Traders and Holders when the time would come.
He had to ask himself why the fates could be so cruel to him, and if there was any way possible for him to either end it all, or find redemption.
