[17.9.64] Putting the wheels into Motion (ALL!)

OOC: This meeting is aimed at those following types of character for the time being - ALL Wingleaders, seconds and thirds, ALL Weyrlingstaff, ALL Ranking lower caverns staff, i.e Head healer, harper, guard, creche woman, etc etc and anyone else that you think would be at this meeting!

As previously promised, Taenia called a meeting early the next morning to discuss plans for leaving Igen Weyr and the Northern Continent. She'd given everyone the night before to think about questions and problems to bring up with their 'leaders' and therefore discuss it during this meeting. If it all went well, then they'd start the move that very afternoon!

Taenia stood in the currently vacent stands of the hatching ground, the only place big enough to talk with everyone and not take up the whole of the lower caverns and have everyone over hearing. Authanth was watching over the hatching grounds from her ledge to make sure that no errant weyrbrats, or curious weyrlings would decide to 'listen in' just yet..

They'd find out soon enough, when their leaders went back to reliterate what was said.

"Thank you for coming!" Taenia called speaking up, hoping to get everyone's silence. "We're here today to discuss the move that we brought to light yesterday, Mac and I have come up with a provised schedule, but would like you to take a look at it, please, and let me know if i've not thought of anything!" She said, passing a hide around for all to see, but planning on speaking up for those that wouldn't see the hide.

"We want to start moving as soon as possible, this afternoon if you're all okay with that! This time, will be much more organised than our escape from Tristar.." she said, leaving a moment silence for everyone to think of the past devisation a moment before continueing. "It's important that all the relevent information and provisions are taken with us!" She added. "So i anticipate that we move in stages, starting with most of our lower caverns, i.e the infirmaries, creche, and lower caverns equipement first." She said, looking towards the relevent gathering of people. "Obviously keep basic provisions back here to cover until we're completed evacutated. We need to set up establishment and living quaters as best as we can before we start to move people out there.. i think the children need to be sent out when we feel ready for them, maybe last, my suggestion would be.. "

"..i'd say that you all go out and have a look as this island with Mac and D'verado after this meeting to understand where we are going to be setting up, to get good reference points in your mind to cope with between and have a idea of how we wish to set this place up."

"once the lower caverns is over there, and all non-dragonriders, then i say its dragonriders turns to leave, as we can travel quickly, i feel it's only right that we are to be last, i'd say you are responsible for your own items within your weyr.. and it's up to you when you move them across."

"On the point of the weyrlings.. This is where the hard work starts, i'm quite aware that our youngest group are able to fly, but not between... i don't feel that rushing their between lesson forward is the answer, it could result in too many deaths.. but i do feel that it's unfair asking them to fly the entire time straight.. i think that we need to create rafts of some descriptions and send them via the sea.. they can take it in turns to fly, and to land - we don't want over stretched muscles! We're going to have to send our suriving foodbeasts via the sea as well..."

"Now, i intend to put wings or riders in certain areas to ensure safety, goldenfalls should be the first to locate to the new weyr, to ensure the survival of at least three golds. Authanth and myself will be amoung the last to leave permantly." She hadn't spoken that part with Mac, and wondered what he would think of that, considering her recent news to him earler this sevenday.

"Are there any questions, or other suggestions? Anyone's ideas are more than welcome!"

From one part of the room, Lorina spoke up. "I already informed the candidates, well what few we have right now, to expect to be doing a lot of hard work here until we get everything there. We can be one of the last groups to go as well, I think. There's no reason they can't be helping with getting things here packed up. Perhaps the older, more senior ones who we know better and trust more can go to the island to be the labor there, and the newer ones can stay here," she said rather quickly. There had to be questions, after all, of who would be helping. Sure some of the canditates might not appreciated being "voluntold" but well...the way she saw it, they could help out or help themselves out...out of the program that was.

Ardalae remained silent at least for now. She had plent of ideas, sure, but she wanted to go to this island first, and at least get as much of an idea about it as she could. Thus, she wasn't certain that she wanted to speak up about her ideas, quite yet.

Randy had once again left Leyran in the creche, bit this time Rask had come with her. The green stayed in the shadows as much as possible. She listened quietly, knowing she wasn't going to leave without Leyran. Even if it meant going last. That would be fine with her. Besides, Rask could help protect them then.

K'ryn nodded as he listened. It made sense. The riders could vacate quicker then the others. There was no sense in everyone leaving at once. It would only cause mass confusion like their last move and he was sure no one wanted that again.

Ginillina stood quietly beside Mikan. She hadn't been sure if they would be needed at this meeting, but they knew the most about the animals. She thought for a minute. Some of the animals might have to be sedated to get them on a raft without panicking.

Shayna stood with her arms folded. What she wouldn't give to have R'bao standing with her. So far everything made sense to her with what Taenia was saying. She was thankful that this time Josiath didn't have a clutch. Too many things had happened to her gold's clutches. "I'll go close to the end as well," the oldest gold rider said. She didn't want to chance betweening too much anyhow. She kept her arms wrapped protectively around her.

Liarna listened to Taenia's words, nodding the entire time. Diern was watching the creche children for her and he'd let her know if there was a problem. She had to be here for this meeting. She heard what Lorina said and then added her own comment. "It'll need to be sorted out which children are moving with their parents and which are moving with the creche," she said. In the few turns she'd spent at Tristar and now Igen, Liarna had become quite comfortable with her position as Creche Mother. "I'll need a list of which children will be under my care for the voyage."

N'nes stood by V'raj listening to the little speech. He was there mostly as support for his wing and so that V'raj wouldn't have to re-explain anything to him later. He's wasn't going to be volunteering any ideas regarding the move, even if he thought he had some great ones. It wasn't his place.

Shiada was attending the meeting both as the representative of the Dragonhealers and as the Weyr's HAD. As per usual, Shicas was fluttering above her head, keeping watch. She didn't have anything she needed to say, or at least no suggestions. "I can help however I'm needed," she said. Her own children would almost certainly be travelling over with the creche and the creche mother. Chances were that she would be too busy during the move to worry about moving them.

OOC: Hope you all don't mind me having Shiada there as the dragonhealer person. I assume that Gila is either not being played or isn't being played much. If it doesn't work I can edit that bit out.

Taenia spoke up then, "I'd suggest that all children move with the creche to start, and stay with the creche unless their parents are happy to come and collect them" the weyrwoman said, thinking about how busy the move would be..Nileod would move with creche, even if he was under the care of Mac's family. it would just help for the first night at least, with how busy things would be. "obviously i won't enforce that, and ask anyone who wishes otherwise to speak with Liarna." she added, not wanting to upset anyone.

Seminth and Outlath also stood watch of the entrance to the Stands, both of them big enough in size and Outlath being enough of a presence to remind the Weyrlings that they were not to be listening in at all, Seminth just large and temperamental.

M'cleod stood quietly behind Taenia, letting her speak as was her place. His ideas were among hers and a few others on the hides moving throughout those gathered that morning. When she mentioned being among the last to move, he felt slightly uneasy, knowing that she was the most at risk due to her rank, but there would be enough protection, he knew he shouldn't worry too greatly over her. Authanth would help keep her safe as well. With Lorina's mention of the Candidates, he nodded to her idea and made note of it on the blank hide he currently held. If they were to send the older Candidates to help set up the new Weyr and keep the younger ones at Igen under Lorina's care until the rafts shove off, it made sense to him.

L'ret stood quietly behind the Weyrleader, still learning the ways of Leadership and managing to be observant enough to excel. He, too had a blank hide to write notes on, though they knew that Kylita was currently writing down everything that was being said. He was only there to back M'cleod and help T'jas explain to their wing later on about the move to a safer home.

Kolteya stood quietly nearby Ardalae, listening to each of the words spoken, having not come up with much yet herself. She knew that there were probably plenty enough Guards that would be staying behind to not worry about helping in her chosen Craft before Impression. That, and the fact that where she could help in the ways of survival on minimal rations, Eodira would have that covered with either herself or one of her Healers of her own descent.

D'verado remained quiet, no hide in his hands as his script was far from perfect nor was it legible to himself half of the time. Besides, scribbles of pictures had a tendency to have mixed meaning to anyone else that looked at them.

Eodira stood quietly, dismissing a copy of the hide for herself, Macira quickly explaining what it entailed as she could not read and had not bothered to learn much past the basics since being at Weyrs, while the others spoke and then added her own words to the mix when given the moment to do so. "I'd like a Senior Journeyman 'ealer stationed with each group while we're movin'. Pref'rably one of each specialty." Of course, everyone knew that the specialties she referred to were those of Human and Dragon Healing. She agreed with the Lower Caverns maneuvers and hoped that a Headwoman would come soon after they had gotten settled at the new Weyr so that she could return her complete focus on Healing again.

Mikan stood next to Ginillina since between the two of them, they practically ran the BeastHerding of the Weyr now. Once given permission to speak, he spoke of Ginillina's thoughts as well. "The herdbeasts and runners won't take too well to sea travel," he stated from experience. "Can we either make special holding areas on the rafts and have the Healers come up with some sorta mild sedation to keep 'em calm on the journey?"

Sanrev and Swift stood quietly, Swift the daytime HeadGuard and Sanrev the nighttime HeadGuard though Swift held a Second position to the wherhandler. Neither of them had comments as they had already discussed what would need done and how to split those they knew had Guard experience.

Caid stood quietly a short distance from Randy. He took care of the pets of the Weyrfolk and he knew that they would travel decently with some special quarters that would only be enclosed spaces. The firelizards pretty well listened to Cai and sometimes, Kalene's Shimmer, but they all knew that Cai was the senior gold firelizard.

Kylita sat at a pier of the Stands, the pier in front of her her writing space as she busily scratched shorthand notes of everyone's words. She had taken it upon herself and the other Scribe to rewrite and continue their history since nearly all of their records had been destroyed in the disaster that had torn apart their last home.

OoC: I believe we were gonna have Gila die in the Disaster. Waiting on Taenia to verify that. c:

Ardalae spoke up then. "Not to be disrespectful to either of you, or even you Kolteya, but it seems to me that it would make more sense for she and I to stay behind til the end and you two to go over first. I mean. . . .You two do have the breeding golds. For whatever reason, neither Fraith or Tsunath have even risen yet. In otherwords, in the end, you have a bit more worth to the weyr than we do. That's just if we split up the way you seem to be suggesting," she said to Taenia and Shayna both. "Personally, I think the safest option in general would be to leave Igen under the charge of one of the bronzes, and for all four of us to go over and take charge there...Seems to me there's going to be plenty going on there." Not that she thought such an thing would occur. But she didn't like the idea of the two senior weyrwoman staying behind and sending two possibly infertile golds to their new home. If something were to happen to them, and Fraith and Tsunath truly weren't ever going to rise, then they were be in serious trouble indeed. She just didn't want to say all of that outloud.

Lorina also spoke. "There's also the issue of how to transport the children," she pointed out. "The very youngest and newborns will still be too young to be able to go safely between, just like a woman in her early pregnancy. The older children will be fine, of course. Or they could go on a raft as well, with others who aren't flying. Or even a straight-flight, like how Katlyn got them here when we evacuated TriStar. . . "

Shayna listened quietly to both Ardalae and Lorina. Ardalae was making sense. Fraith and Tsunath hadn't proven themselves yet, but she hated to think about leaving them behind. She looked at Lorina. "I could take a few of the children over," she offered. She knew she wouldn't be betweening. No way was she going to chance losing her baby. And she knew Josiath wouldn't mind taking some of the young ones over.

"I could stay behind," K'ryn offered. Zarepheth was older now, so he knew that they would be fine. And he did like the idea of the golds going over first. At least that way they would be safe no matter what happened.

M’cleod nodded to Ardalae’s words and looked to Taenia on the factor. “Ardalae’s got a very good point. Plus Authanth’s currently egg heavy. Whoever’s left ‘ere in charge won’t be ‘lone. A quick jump Between an’ one of us can be ‘ere to help keep things movin’ ‘long.” Looking to Lorina, and after giving Taenia a moment to answer, he took charge again. “It’s a very long straight flight, Shayna, we’d need ta rest Josiath of’en if ya’ was to do ‘at. We can transfer the younger crèche by raft an’ the older by dragonback. Do ya’ think ya’ could manage the older children ‘til Liarna an’ the younger children git there on the rafts?” he asked, looking to Liarna for her approval of the idea. He then notated the young bronzerider that offered to stay behind without confirming anything. They would discuss it later. “There any other bronzeriders ‘at’ld like to stay ‘til last?” he asked. Best find out how many were willing and choose from them.

Swift raised his hand at the Weyrleader’s call for bronzeriders. “I can stay,” he said afterward. That would allow most of the Guard to go with the rafts and to the new Weyr easier.

Eodira answered a question about the transfer of the beasts via the rafts, saying, “I’ll make up a feed supplement ‘at’ll calm the beasts down fer travel.” A few simple herbs had calming effects on beasts and humans alike and they were harmless to the body’s systems.

Taenia listed to everyone's valid points, and nodded her head in agreement. Ok, so she and Authanth would transfer over first. She wouldn't argue their points were true, and Authanth would be too heavy to fly soon enough..

Shiada looked over to Eodira and added, "If you need any help with that just let me know. Might be useful for some of the dragons that can't fly over too, not to mention people who get sea-sick." It wouldn't do for everyone to take it, but there were some people she knew who could hardly step foot on a raft on the calmest water without getting sick.

[Katlyn]

"Another question...One I think is rather important," Ardalae spoke up then. They were doing fine on planning on how to get the things there but...She had her concerns. Little ones here and there. She was glad to hear, of course, that the two older queens would go over first instead. "But...Where is the Weyr going to get it's candidates from? And how will we get new ones there without endangering the weyr with a possible...well spy, for lack of better words making their way into our halls?" she asked, wondering how much they'd thought out their plan of making their new home an island. "If our newest glass smith is any indication, then obviously there are those who are still loyal to the weyr, but. . . This latest attack proves that there are many who are not. . . Obviously we need to move, but surely we need to plan out more than how to move."

She turned to the ones who had explored the island then already. "You already told us a little bit about the island, but will it be big enough for us to establish our own halls, even holdings for the non-riders who come our way? And are we first going to do a Search for those still loyal to us? Crafters and holders a like? I'm merely a former trader, but my understanding was that we Riders have always been dependent upon Pern to help provide. What I hear...seems to be only a plan for the immediate future. Eventually, the livestock and food we bring over will be depleted. As will any other supplies such as cloths, fellis, numbweed...Seems to me, even by moving to this new sanctuary. . . Well, won't we still have to come back here?" She didn't know why she'd thought of all this, or why she was even voicing it now, but surely while they were planning their move, they could also plan how to take care of the logistics of things afterwards.

Taenia looked up at Ardalae's speaking. "We are going to have to learn to be self sufficant in our new home.. the days of living off the holders are no longer.. and maybe one day, when thread falls and they realise that they need us...then we will go back" Taenia replied. "But to be able to meet thread and protect pern once again as we once did, we will need to be able to breed our dragons.. and we can't do that on the northern continent." She replied. "As so how we will get our supplies.. we'll learn to grow our own things.. and breed our own beasts.. we will become self-suficient...even if we have to use...less, conventional means" She said, thinking of the raids they would have to do to help them be self suficient.. at least to start with..
"As for the candidates, we have the barrier island to start with which is where they will stay until we are certain that they are safe.. "

M'cleod marked down Swift's name under a fresh note of bronzeriders to consider him for staying behind as well. M'cleod nodded at Ardalae's question again. "Like Taenia said, 'ere's two islands, one much smaller, 'at we intend ta use as the entrance. Once we're sure Candidates Searched're loyal, they'll be sent by dragonback to the Weyr itself ta finish their trainin', hidin' it's exact location on the bigger island 'til we're absolutely certain of 'em. Ev'rythin's still in the works as ta how we're gonna provide for ourselves longterm, but there's plenty of wild beasts on the islands 'at we'll need to learn the ways of an' plen'y of growth on the plateau toward the mountain range 'at could be useful to us. It should be big 'nough ta manage a few small Holds an' Halls ta make livin' alright for all us. We'll search for those still loyal to us once we've moved. We need ta make the move now due to our water shortage."

Shayna listened to everyone's points. At the moment she couldn't think of anything to add. It appeared that they had everything pretty well covered. She just hoped that this move went as well as their meeting was. She would hate to see anything go wrong.
